Being a Nation is a responsibility. Just as Civic Sense needs to be taught, hygiene needs to be taught, safe driving needs to be taught, we need to teach Nationhood to children. The contents of this course should be:

1. The political system.
2. The legal system.
3. The law enforcement system.
4. The steps which an ordinary citizen should take to interact with various systems.
5. But MOST IMPORTANTLY, the need to actually utilize the knowledge from 4 to interact with the systems. To not sit around idle if news arrives of massive corruption. To not sit around idle if your local government is not providing cleaning services, etc.

I envisage 9th grade students being asked questions such as:

1. A corrupt Prime Minister is disqualified, but uses his influence to make changes to the law in his favour. What are your responsibilities as a Citizen of Pakistan?

The first basic step should be to teach kids ethics than these things.

This proposal assumes that the current rulers will find it beneficial. Well it will certainly be beneficial to the public but will it have any benefit for the status quo leadership?

What the status quo finds more beneficial is stamping Benazir's name and picture in every textbook and detailing on how much of a historic achievement the metro project turned out to be.

I remember that in Beaconhouse they stopped teaching Pakistan's modern history by grade 8. The reasoning was that the content was politically sensitive. If a private school of such caliber is scared of such then you can imagine how difficult it will be

Pakistan need a complete overhaul of education system there is no culture of asking questions in our educational institutes there is just ratta no education system which forces a student to ask questions even teachers doesn't encourage them for this.

Good point. These Financial Terrorists are even controlling education to keep themselves relevant. But assuming the ideal where we no longer have them, this nation needs to be systematically awoken about its rights and responsibilities.

Yes, that is another need of the hour. Need to move away from rote learning and give students the confidence to tackle questions on their own.

This goes beyond education. Its a very deep mindset that has existed for decades.

I have people on my one parent's side who are die hard altafists
I have people on the other parent's that are die hard bhuttoists

Both are educated and have access to the level of information that we have.

I asked the altafists that they witness Altaf's drunk rambles and encourgement of political violence.
I asked the bhuttoists as to how benazir was beneficial in any respect towards Pakistan.

Both sides gave an answer that ended up with some intense conspiracy where the army was involved. No facts, no evidence but just plain gossip BS.

Its a mindset. We don't make judgements based on empirical evidence. Its all gossip for the status quo and somehow they declare gossip to be the facts.

Kids need to be taught to stop whining and remember ke Baap kon hai. Nawaz is the ruler of this country, because of the sacrifices he made, and because he tested the Atom Bomb on India. He makes India cry with fear when they even look at us!

Yes. They have a complete hold on the system. But the good thing is, they are naturally taking the system towards their own downfall. Dr. Shahid Masood today made a very insightful remark. At the same time when Americans were dealing Shah Iran, they were also making approaches to Khumeni. And this gang of Financial Terrorists is dealing with these very Americans. What can I say?

Agreed. Complete abolishment of rote learning, and independent thinking are a must for our educational reforms.

Sometimes i think IK should've given a dharna for Education and Health systems or made such a revolutionary changes in both of these departments in KP that other gov would've been forced to adopt those changes but...

Well, he's not completely out of the picture... yet! There is always the next dharna :D As a matter of fact, what would be the consequences if this political party streams in 10s of thousands of people and start a dharna between prime minister house, parliament lodges, and national assembly? With all roads blocked, the politicians won't be able to move, LOL.

I think we need to heed the words JFK "Ask not what your country can do for you but what you can do for your country", if we can instill this message into our youngsters , we can be the envy of the world, to achieve this we need to reinforce the message that we have to fight to strengthen the current constitution which is based on Islamic principle as we are a nation created for Muslims to live and thrive in, that is what our founders envisaged and being an optimist I believe wholeheartedly that we can achieve this with the right man at the helm, leading by example as they say.Kudos sir
