From now on the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), Coast Guard(CG) and police will have to take prior permission from the Border GuardBangladesh (BGB) for carrying out any drive within eight kilometers in thecountry's border areas.

The Ministry of Home Affairs has taken this decision with aview to removing misunderstanding with the Border Security force (BSF) ofIndian, official sources said.

Letters to this effect from the police headquarters havealready been sent to the Circle ASP of border districts, RAB camp office andthe Coast Guard.

When asked Moklesur Rahman, director general of RAB, told The New Nation yesterday that they had received a letter from the police headquarters. Since RAB is a part of police, it will obey the decision of the home ministry.

Maj Gen Anwar Hossain, director general of BGB told reporters yesterday that the border guard would jointly conduct drive within eight kilometers of the frontier together with RAB and police.

Colonel Hafizur Rahman, BGB director (training and operation) in a letter to the home ministry recently said the BGB conducts anti-smuggling dive as well as patrols in five kilometers of the border areas.

According to international law, presence of armed force within eight kilometers of the border areas should be informed to the border forces of the other country.

It is to be noted that the RAB, Coast Guard and police personnel do not belong to the armed forces, sources said.

Rajshahi Metropolitan police (RMP), several police stations of some districts, including Jessore, Jamalpur, Bandarban, Jhenidah,Khagrachhari, Kurigram, Kushtia, Chittagong, Chuadanga, Comilla, Rangamati,Cox's Bazar, Satkhira, Feni and Sylhet fall within eight kilometers of the Bangladesh-India border.

Officer-in-charge of Debhata Police Station of Satkhira district told The New Nation yesterday that his police station is situated about 500 yards from the border line. "Of I had to take permission from the BGB for functioning than activities, than there would be no need of police," he said.

Not only smuggling operations, many other crimes are happening in border areas, he said, adding police and RAB are needed to conduct drives to arrest the criminals.

A RAB official, preferring anonymity, told this reporter yesterday that many top terrorists are operating crimes in the border areas and the elite force needs to drive secretly. If they had to take permission from BGB, the drive would not be successful, he added.

Commander Haji Mohammad Shoyel, director of media and legal wing of RAB, said any problem relating to border areas can be solved through discussion among the officials of the home ministry, RAB, police and Coast Guard.

What misunderstanding the so called home ministry of sahara khatun wanted to remove here with BSF by restricting the BDR, Police and coast guard within 8 KM of border area when they operate within Bangladesh or it is a move to give the BSF a blank cheque so that it can enter bangladesh anytime to carry out their barbaric activity...

This is another calleous AL decision. It is not very clear what are the objects of this govt decision. It will open another pandoras box. It is just to please the BSF and India. We have not heard yet of similar reciprocal decision by the country called BANDHUSTAN.

This is indeed the latest part of the grand plan to kill BD as a nation state, IMHO. With force and deception, RAWAMY bastards are now going to make border's adjacent areas as 'Squeezing zones' of BD's sovereignty. It's also ironic that it coincides with the promulgation of minority party, the ultimate goal of which would most likely be separating 'Southern West' territories as a new country named 'Bangha Bhumi'. When 'Law-Enforcers' acted as mere spectators during RAWAMY'S unprecedented crime against humanity on OCT.28th, 2006; the seed of BD's death blasted out of its land and with the above news it got even more fertile than yesterday.

The BSF are not the only ones. Believe me. Once the transit is complete, that'll give the Indians a free pass for both commercial and military purposes. That is, as long as the AL under Hasina's leadership are in power.
