From now on the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), Coast Guard(CG) and police will have to take prior permission from the Border GuardBangladesh (BGB) for carrying out any drive within eight kilometers in thecountry's border areas.
The Ministry of Home Affairs has taken this decision with aview to removing misunderstanding with the Border Security force (BSF) ofIndian, official sources said.

Letters to this effect from the police headquarters havealready been sent to the Circle ASP of border districts, RAB camp office andthe Coast Guard.
When asked Moklesur Rahman, director general of RAB, told The New Nation yesterday that they had received a letter from the police headquarters. Since RAB is a part of police, it will obey the decision of the home ministry.
Maj Gen Anwar Hossain, director general of BGB told reporters yesterday that the border guard would jointly conduct drive within eight kilometers of the frontier together with RAB and police.
Colonel Hafizur Rahman, BGB director (training and operation) in a letter to the home ministry recently said the BGB conducts anti-smuggling dive as well as patrols in five kilometers of the border areas.
According to international law, presence of armed force within eight kilometers of the border areas should be informed to the border forces of the other country.
It is to be noted that the RAB, Coast Guard and police personnel do not belong to the armed forces, sources said.
Rajshahi Metropolitan police (RMP), several police stations of some districts, including Jessore, Jamalpur, Bandarban, Jhenidah,Khagrachhari, Kurigram, Kushtia, Chittagong, Chuadanga, Comilla, Rangamati,Cox's Bazar, Satkhira, Feni and Sylhet fall within eight kilometers of the Bangladesh-India border.
Officer-in-charge of Debhata Police Station of Satkhira district told The New Nation yesterday that his police station is situated about 500 yards from the border line. "Of I had to take permission from the BGB for functioning than activities, than there would be no need of police," he said.
Not only smuggling operations, many other crimes are happening in border areas, he said, adding police and RAB are needed to conduct drives to arrest the criminals.
A RAB official, preferring anonymity, told this reporter yesterday that many top terrorists are operating crimes in the border areas and the elite force needs to drive secretly. If they had to take permission from BGB, the drive would not be successful, he added.
Commander Haji Mohammad Shoyel, director of media and legal wing of RAB, said any problem relating to border areas can be solved through discussion among the officials of the home ministry, RAB, police and Coast Guard.
