Haq's Musings: Pakistan Opposition Indicts But Still Supports Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif

Contrary to the news and editorials in Pakistan's hyper-partisan media, the fact is thatprotesters led by PTI leader Imran Khan and PAT chief Tahir ul Qadri have already achieved many of their key objectives, including the following:

1. Going by the speeches of Aitzaz Ahsan, Khursheed Shah, Javed Hashmi and other parliamentarians at the joint session, there is broad agreement that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and his ruling clique are guilty of abuse of power, corruption and nepotism, the charges leveled by PTI and PAT against the ruling Sharif family.

2. The speakers at the joint session, particularly Aitzaz Ahsan, also believe that Nawaz Sharif has violated the constitution by placing shipping containers in an attempt to stop PTI and PAT marches.

3. They said that the last general elections held in May of 2013 which gave Nawaz Sharif's PMLN party majority in the parliament were massively rigged as alleged by Imran Khan.

Sen. Aitazaz Ahsan's Convoluted Logic

However, what is most surprising is that the same speakers who indicted Nawaz Sharif also pledged to stand by him and urged the Prime Minister to not resign. They argue that they are defending Pakistan's constitution and democracy by supporting Nawaz Sharif to remain Prime Minister of Pakistan. This stand by the PPP and other parties, particularly by Senator Aitzaz Ahsan, raises the following questions:

1. If Senator Aitzaz Ahsan and some of his fellow parliamentarian truly believe that Nawaz Sharif is guilty as charged, then how is he qualified to hold the office of the Prime Minister?

2. Will they, Aitzaz Ahsan and others, use constitutional means to remove Mr. Sharif from office based on the charge sheet that they have laid out in their speeches to parliament?

3. If they support electoral and governance reforms in Pakistan, how would they go about pushing for it while Nawaz Sharif and his family remain in power?

This is Nawaz Sharif's third term as Pakistan's Prime Minister. Given the history of Nawaz Sharif's behavior in office, is there hope that any serious electoral or governance reforms can take place on his watch? This is the key question that those who oppose his resignation must answer.

Here's a description of a video discussion on this subject: Have PTI and PAT dharnas succeeded in their objectives? Did Pakistan Parliament Joint Session speeches indicting Nawaz Sharif help or hurt PMLN government? Will current crisis lead to radical reforms in electoral process and governance demanded by Imran Khan and Tahir ul Qadri in Pakistan? Is Modi aligning himself with Japan and US against China in the new great game in Asia? They are supporting them because next election will also be rigged.. Remember Sheala Raza statement about NRO and COD..
Today Zardari statement is also same that we are supporting ourself..

They both know if Military come the NRO might get cancelled , so dono choor phansh jainge

NRO cancellation was the biggest , wrong decision in history of Pakistan or close second

Either we should take everything aitzaaz hussain said as true even if it was against IK or we should not take him seriously. We accept whatever he said against PML(N) as true and valid but whatever he said against Imran/PTI as invalid lol. Selective approach lol

I personally feel whatever he said is correct. Nawaz and its government are not infallible and it will be true for any past or future government as well. Its job of parliamentarians to point out mistakes of government and to give solution to rectify it or not to repeat it again. So his criticism on nawaz dont mean he should support anarchist people like qadri with zero political authority

Jamhooriat is subservient to the Jumhoor (Jumhoor). When the Jumhoor itself forgets its rights and caves into tyranny, it loses the right to have Jumhooriat.
What if the election system itself is rigged against jamhoor? Whose fault is it then?

lol, defending crooks is defending constitution now . It's amazing that a PM who has lied in parliament has not been forced to resign as he has broken his oath.

I accepted Aitzaz's speech as balanced, but when he agreed that rigging did happen and also that Model Town massacre tragedy was never officially investigated, and yet he supported that PM for "democracy", I was like what a hypocrite!

It's amazing that a PM who has lied in parliament has not been forced to resign as he has broken his oath.

Welcome to Pakistani "democracy"! LOL :D

Lets imagine had NRO had not happened, an Alternate Universe scenario

We would have enjoyed 5 Glorious years under Musharraf Sahib

Musharaf' Probable 5 years that never happened
Iran - Pakistan gas pipeline deal would haven been done 100%
Railways would have got their 200 Engines they needed and in total we would have 400 engines
IT would be rocking , and bring in $$$ into country
J10B deal would never have been cancelled because it was envisioned by Musharraf directly
Karachi would have had a Circular Railways
Telecom auction would have yeilded 4-5 Billion with his vision.
The Submarine Deal with China would have already been announced
We would have 8 F22P frigates
Musharraf would have negotiated for another Military Package for Pakistan with USA (Super Cobras / F16 New jets)
China - Gawadar project would be already making Billions for Pakistani Economy
Rupee value would have been at 65 Rupees for Dollar
New planes would have already been ordered for PIA
Benazir would have been alive and no damage done to Pakistan Railways Boogies
China - Pakistan would have inked the 20-30 Billion dollar in projects for development of
Baluchistan / Sindh and KPK and Punjab areas
There would be no person named Raja Rental in Pakistan
Chudry Iftikhar would have been back in workforce after a consolation effort to end rift
Islamabad Airport would have been named after old leaders of Pakistan

2013-PTI and Musharraf's PML would have came into power as coalition
Prime Minister Imran Khan
President Musharaf

International Pakistanis could vote in elections and participate in elections

Imran Khan would have been in power in absense of Musharaf , and no PPP / PML due to corruption cases or may be a 50% share between Musharaf's party and PTI
There would be no Dharna and we would have a naya pakistan with proper constitution and Nation wide changes, and the economy would have been booming
Investigation would have been launched to get Billions from Swiss Bank accounts
There would be no letters sent to Swiss banks to release the funds stuck for PPP or PML parliamentarians
There would be no need for IMF bail out because Pakistan would have had 30 billions in surplus in the banks due to continuation of Democracy and People's will
Imran Khan & Musharaf would have launched a epic program for social welfare which would have truely changed the status of provinces for decades with billion dollar investment in welfare programs
Military would have received money for SAM missiles for high altitude Missile for obvious reasons

Pakistani economy would have been trading Ruppee 52 Rupees for 1 Dollar

--------------------------Again if there was no NRO in Pakistan

Other side

Nawaz sharif would have been eating dates and living in Saudi Arabia , and retiring peacefully , the millions would have lasted for life for him , living peacefull in Saudia Palace
Benazir would have been living in UK with Zardari and they would have been living of the funds , giving speaches here and there, Bilawal would have been no factor in politics
Bilawal would have been looking for his first job in UK perhaps at McDonalds branch
Pakistan would not have been burdened with the two aristocratic families
Qadri would have retired peacefully in Canada , perhaps he would have come to Pakistan to see the revolutionary changes and would have admired the status of Pakistan and might have even participated in elections
