A former US defense official has revealed that the Pentagon had drawn plans to invade Iran in the wake of the 9/11 terror attacks.
In a recently published book 'War and Decision', former undersecretary of defense for policy Douglas Feith claimed that then US defense secretary Donald Rumsfeld had set an official objective to recreate the map of the Middle East using military force.
According to Feith, Rumsfeld had urged US President George W. Bush to lay the foundation for 'new regimes' to be put in place in several Middle Eastern countries including Iran and Syria, a decision which was reportedly vigorously backed by Washington echelons.
He added that Rumsfeld sought to 'disrupt, damage, or destroy' the military capacities of states that support anti-Israel forces such as Lebanon's Hezbollah Movement and Palestine's Hamas.
"That language, which extended the principle of preemption far beyond the issue of WMDs, was so broad as to justify plans to use force against virtually any state that was not a client of the United States," Feith said.
While Washington accuses Iran of pursuing nuclear weaponry and provoking violence in Iraq in what is believed to be a longstanding attempt to portray the Islamic Republic as a threat, pundits believe it is merely attempting to prepare the world for the launch of its long planned scheme to wage yet another war in the already volatile Middle East.
