Last few years have been challenging for Pakistanis in general, ever since Panama things have been heading south from economy to capital markets to inflation and many more; the silver lining has been the improving international image of Pakistan, but this has brought no respite to a common man. Media well I had long ago surmised that media is like a paid wh**e which dances to the tune of the highest bidder, our media has been worse than mercenaries or paid wh**es with the exception of a couple of media house their entire focus has been to project a negative image about Pakistan. Highlight everything negative and never positive.

For a common man inflation has taken away every joy in his life, and media adds to it by projecting negativity about Pakistan. Worst are the prime time jokers on every channel if it were up to them Pakistan would be no more, thank goodness it is not up to them. The role of media is like a tutor / a coach which mold the character of a nation towards betterment and not the way our media has been doing. Media should be highlighting a positive image of the country, its people just the other day I was watching the vlog series by Trevor James and I thought why the hell our media was not able to do it?

Nonetheless every Govt which has come to power has left something good for the nation the only exceptions are PPP, MMA and ANPs Govt. Last week I paid a visit to Punjab Healthcare Initiative, met their key people who briefed about the project and what they are doing. Frankly I had no words but to feel impressed about what is happening, such a positive move. Their end product is called nowadays “Sehat Insaf Card” which is a rebranded/repackaged product and was launched in early 2000s by the then PMLN Govt.

The modus operandi is that a survey was conducted for BISP long time ago and 7 million people in Punjab were found to be living under poverty line (less than 2$ per day income) and that is the base for distribution of Sehat Card. Health cards have been given to these 7 million people having an annual limit of 360K per annum. Their calculation is that the card covers on an average 28-35 million people of Punjab (7 million people having average 5 people per family) they can go to the listed private hospitals across Pakistan for their indoor treatments.

Here are few additional positives first the 360K limit is not final if there is a disease which requires more limit with a simple application the limit is doubled and even further no patient is denied his treatment.

It does not cover OPD, opds are covered by public hospitals. From economic perspective it is a very good measure for uplift of people living under poverty line, because these are the people who have serious health problems and once the money they were supposed to spend on their healthcare is saved it is spend on other things like food/education. Successive Govt have not only kept it funded but improved it, incumbent Govt too has not only continued it without creating hurdles in the way of a project launched by a previous Govt but improved and organized it significantly.

This is about Punjab KPK is even better than Punjab. Sind not so well, Baluchistan same as sind. Spend money goes to private hospitals through State Life and in turn the private hospitals will be uplifted and the economic activity improves, doctors, nurses, pharmaceuticals, life/health insurance and lot of others benefit from this.

Best thing to hear was that the utilization of this card is only 3% compared to a global average of 2%, considering the fact that there are serious healthcare issues in Pakistan the cards are still not being mis-used.

Thanks to the 18th Amendment, each province looks after its own people...SO this is for Punjab.

Nothing to do with 18th amendment, as is the case with Indians always finding ways to somehow ridicule, vilify Pakistan without substance and proof. One of the reasons I always ignore them something to do with my signatures.;)

The survey for people below poverty line was conducted somewhere in 2003/04 and world bank data clearly states poverty to be between 28.6%(2001) to 18% (2004) in Pakistan. and 7 million is still 6.3% of punjab's population.
