No they are not "Abdus Samad" ............. if we start practicing true Islam today's times, we wouldn't marry our daughters unless they have reached a point where they are financially independent and playing a key role in society.

And Messenger Peace be upon him didn't marry any child. The first wife of Messenger was older than Him, during the currency of that marriage no other women entered into Nikkah with Messenger, after death of first wife, Messenger needed someone to share his domestic burden so that he could freely teach his followers, and Ayesha before entering into Nikkah with Messenger was engaged to someone else. She knowingly took the role of becoming wife, she understood her role and responsibilities and interestingly that marriage has no children. Later Messenger married widows and helpless women to set an example.

I know its not going to convince you ....... but still a rebuttal to your ignorant rant is necessary.
Islam also says to use logic or common sense.

Women need to be educated first before they should marry. Otherwise they will be taken advantage of.

Women need education in Islam and in worldly matters.

Minimum Age For Marriage

According to the OECD, if current trends continue, it will take 100 years for child marriage (defined as marriage of persons under 18 years) in the whole world to be eradicated.

This affects 12 million girls every year worldwide.

The OECD said that this primarily has to do with social norms, where it is normal in many countries and cultures to be married at a young age.

What do you think should be the minimum legal age for a woman to marry?

Currently, the lowest minimum legal age (of all the countries in the world) to get married is 9 years for girls. The highest minimum legal age for women is 21 years.

The poll therefore runs from 9 to 21 years.

(Since there is a limited amount of possible responses, in the first three possible responses there are two years per response listed as a choice)

P.S. I know that in many countries with a legal age higher than 18 years, there are still many child marriages.
But when I asked in this poll for what the best minimum legal age should be for a woman to marry, I also meant that this should be enforced and applied in order to make sure that everyone adheres to this minimum legal age.
When boy and girl hit maturity that is time when they married. Now it is up to them

Agreed with you.

What do you mean by maturity? Do you mean Puberty? lol.

Yes they can be married at that time.

Back then there was no organized education so people married early back then.

Now the times are like you need to get educated so you can earn a proper wage.

People need to be sensible minded.

Technically you are correct people can get married when they hit puberty. Nobody is denying that.

But in this day and age its better to get married after getting a Bachelor's and Master's degrees

Please tell me what is the differance between a 12 year old girl married and a 12 year old girl having rampant sex everywhere? The only diffeance is the former has one partner [if she has child they will know the dad], the latter dozens [if she has child there will be dozen suspects].
Let me tell you the difference,
The 12 year old married is forced to have sex 100%, the girl having ''rampant''(really?) sex does it by choice(free will).
You didnt notice this ''small'' difference?

Puberty is different then maturity.

Agreed. I see that in UK. You will see these groups shedding tears over underage marriage in Peshwar but ignore the umderage pregnancies and sex that is common even amongst 13 year olds right under their noses in Peterborough.

This depends on so many things. Culture, food, laws etc. It is for society to take collective decisions for corrective measure but in western societies, individual liberty is given so much importance that their society can not take collective decision. To avoid such issues, there was a custom of child marriage. When girl grows up, she know that she is engaged somewhere and remains emotionally attached.when she attains 16 years of age, she will be married. Marriage is a responsibility. In western society, everybody wants all enjoyment without responsibilities. They do not face some very adverse consequence because of economic well being but how will it turn out to be will be known in future.

I am divided on 16 and 18 i am going to go for 18
By that time atleast you complete highschool

However when you should marry is a different debate (that is if you have to :D )

Do you only mean physical maturity or also emotional maturity?

Because physical maturity is easy to determine, but how would you do that with emotional maturity?
Some kind of test?

Mate, I have grown up in the west. Having "choice" means same as having "choice" in covering your head in Islamic societies like Pakistan. In Pakistan there is no law or legal obligation to cover up but the social pressure to oblige is so strong that it makes mockery of the word "choice".

In reality peer pressure, sexualization by commercial media and entertainment means there is very little "informed choice". Girls give their bodies to look cool or stay popular in their socoal group. Furthmore I am not too sure that 12/13 year olds can make such a choice. Thus my use of "informed choice".

There should be no minimum legal age for marriage.
State intervention within the personal realm should be minimum
