Politicos, babus buy Chinese weapons in Punjab - The Times of India

A lot of weapons recovered by the state police from terrorists and criminals in the last 20 were allotted to political leaders and bureaucrats for a pittance. This came to the fore in information procured by a Bathinda resident, Charanjit Singh Bhullar, from the home department under RTI.

At least 79 .32 bore Chinese revolvers, which cost over Rs 2 lakh each in the open market in India or 7.62 MM Mauser pistol that costs over Rs 3 lakh each, were sold by the Punjab home department in the last 10 years for just Rs 25,000 each. Not only Chinese, but seven American pistols, 11 German, three English, two Spanish and many Belgian and Czech made revolvers and pistols were sold by the home department at 'subsidized' rates when buyers were political leaders or senior bureaucrats. A large number of weapons recovered by the police also included India made weapons but 'influential' buyers showed their preference for sophisticated Chinese and other foreign-made weapons.

If during the Congress regime, the Amritsar area had the lion's share of 65 weapons of the 274 weapons allotted and Bathinda district ended up with the allotment of just 10 weapons, the Akali leaders of this region are very hopeful of getting a big share this time around with their party in power. Two DCs of that time, KP Sinha (Bathinda) and Hussan Lal (Faridkot) were allotted German made .32 bore revolvers. A Congress MLA of Bathinda region and a SAD (B) MLA of Faridkot district got Chinese and Czechoslovakia made revolvers. An SGPC member was allotted a Chinese revolver.

Partap Singh Bajwa, Vijay Inder Singla (both MPs) and Santokh Singh were other beneficiaries. About a dozen DSPs in Punjab police and SDMs were also allotted the weapons. Two women, including a principal of a school in Ludhiana were other beneficiaries. Even three judicial officers (judges) were allotted these highly-subsidized weapons, revealed the RTI report.

do you really belive Indians buy these wepons on the street as they are available next door in pakistan? it requirs a lot of money influnce and if u notice only people with political ties are buying the above said arms.
true we are the world largest importers of wepons but they are all for our armed forces not police. and certainly not for the public.

You can get AK's for much. much cheaper.... in our very own India ILLEGALLY of course....

The possibility of a civilian getting an AK in india is slimmer than slim. Hell, its not even possible to get a local gun to begin with....

Pakistan is a free country with plenty of civil rights that you can only dream of. Here any one can afford, buy and own weapons of any kind. I myself own Nine (9) pistols, 4 rifles and two shotguns.
