Poland has ordered missiles from Norway's Kongsberg Defense for a second coastal defense missile squadron.
By Richard Tomkins | Dec. 19, 2014 at 12:21 PM

KONGSBERG, Norway, Dec. 19 (UPI) -- Poland is getting a second coastal defense missile squadron equipped with truck-mounted naval strike missiles from Kongsberg Defense & Aerospace.
The Norwegian company said the contract from Poland's Ministry of National Defense is worth about $175.3 million.

"This agreement proves the leading position of NSM and our position as a reliable partner and supplier to Poland," said Harald Annestad, president of Kongsberg Defense.

"Polish industry and Kongsberg successfully delivered the first NSM Coastal Defense Squadron through a close cooperation with the Polish Government. With this contract we continue our ambition of involving even more Polish companies and expand our cooperation into a broader technological arena."

Kongsberg first supplied its NSM system to Poland under a 2008 contract. Maintenance of the system is provided in partnership with WZE, or Wojskowe Zakłady Elektroniczne S.A.

The trucks radar and communications system for NSMs used in Poland are provided by Polish companies.

The NSM was originally developed for the Norwegin Navy and is operational on new Norwegian Fridtjof Nansen-class frigates and the Skjold-class corvettes.

Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace (KONGSBERG) has signed a contract with the Polish Ministry of National Defence for an NSM (Naval Strike Missile) Coastal Defence System valued at NOK 1.3 Billion. The scope of delivery is a Squadron-size unit similar to the contract won with Poland in 2008.

After a successful delivery and acceptance of the first Squadron, this second Squadron will increase the cooperation with the Polish Government and industry and further enhance security of supply by establishing the capability to maintain the system in Poland in an alliance with WZE (Wojskowe Zakłady Elektroniczne S.A).

The system uses NSM in conjunction with a command and weapon control system similar to the renowned NASAMS air defence system in use by four NATO countries, including the US. The radar system, communications system and trucks carrying launch ramps are provided by Polish subcontractors.

The NSM is a fifth generation Strike Missile, developed by KONGSBERG for the Norwegian Navy. NSM reached Initial Operational Capability on the new Norwegian Fridtjof Nansen Class frigates and the new Norwegian Skjold Class corvettes in 2012. NSM was also recently tested by the US Navy on LCS (Littoral Combat Ship) #4 Coronado.

"This agreement proves the leading position of NSM and our position as a reliable partner and supplier to Poland. Polish industry and KONGSBERG successfully delivered the first NSM Coastal Defence Squadron through a close cooperation with the Polish Government. With this contract we continue our ambition of involving even more Polish companies and expand our cooperation into a broader technological arena", says Harald Ånnestad, President of Kongsberg

Germanics like Norwegians always look down on Slavic people. During WW2, many Norwegians joined SS and massacred lots of Slavic people.

And Slavic people are not helping by buying weapons from Germanics, can't make anything themselves except Russians can.

No, but this is like 1.2 billion Indians can't make weapons, have to buy from radars and missiles from Israel which has a population of 8 million including 5 million Jewish people.

That is American technology in real but any ways Indians can make their own equipment. Its another issue which we can debate in another thread.

Then why Norway can make weapons while Poland cannot make? Israel has Tavor. That's not an American gun.

i like how Superboy is one dimensional. if he isn't going on about DSI he thinks size and population determine how strong a country or culture can be.

If this was true Sub-Sahara Africa would of surpass the EU in technology and economy decades ago.

This is not entirely true, Czechs made excellent weapons in its time, including tanks and airplanes. In Poland, were built landing ships and helicopters for USSR. But West destroys industry of Eastern Europe - nothing personal, just business.
