DHAKA, April 7, 2019 (BSS) – Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today sought cooperation from Italy to develop the leather sector of Bangladesh saying, “We need your cooperation in leather sector as the leather goods of your country are good in quality .”

That is the understatement of the year!

But they make high tech items in Italy which are also good, though very few know about them.

I don't have to mention Fiat, Pininfarina, Maserati, Alfa Romeo - everyone knows. Fiat could be a great collaborator for making automotive components and maybe even complete automobiles.

The early 3 Wheelers we operated were all made in Italy (Piaggio which came up with the Vespa as well). Lambretta made some great two wheelers.

The Japanese learned how to make two and three wheelers from the Italians in the 50's.

Metalworking machinery and CNC machinery are also very well made and there are many good companies making small scale machinery which are competitively priced.

There is of course their aviation sector as well (Airbus' small prop plane division ATR) which although well-equipped and famous has not been profitable lately because of high labor costs. But no issues with the planes themselves which have good market in Asia.

Piaggio's aircraft has been exported to our shores in the 50's and 60's (Pakistan times). There was a gate guardian used in front of the Pilkhana BGB cantonment, though I don't know if it is still there. This was the P166 of which there are still some around.

And Mr. Kihak Sung of Youngone has his people operate this Piaggio Avanti. Still working DAC-CTG route and it is a beaut! The Ferrari of prop airplanes.
