Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurates a non-stop Dhaka-Rajshahi intercity train service through video conferencing from her official residence, Ganabhaban, in Dhaka on April 25, 2019 Focus Bangla

The 927-seat modern train started its maiden trip this morning

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has launched the first-ever non-stop intercity train service on Dhaka-Rajshahi route.

She opened the service “Bonolota Express” through videoconferencing from her official residence Ganabhaban Thursday morning.

With the launch of the non-stop intercity train service, the prime minister fulfilled the long-cherished demand of the people of Rajshahi region.

The 927-seat modern train started its maiden trip from Rajshahi towards Dhaka around 11:10am, reports UNB.

Now passengers will be able to travel to Rajshahi from Dhaka within 4 hours and 45 minutes, which is over an hour less than the current travel time.

Bonolota Express is the third non-stop intercity train in Bangladesh. Currently, two non-stop trains are plying on Dhaka-Chittagong route.

The high-speed train—which has 12 coaches-- will be running on the 343-kilometre route without any stoppage between Dhaka and Rajshahi.

Now three intercity trains --Silk City Express, Padma Express and Dhumketu Express-- are running daily on the Dhaka-Rajshahi route, having stoppages at 10 to 14 stations.

According to the regular schedule, Bonolota Express will start from Rajshahi at 7am and reach Kamalapur Railway Station in Dhaka by 11:40am.

It will leave Dhaka at 1:15pm and reach Rajshahi at 6pm.

The train is equipped with some modern facilities like bio-toilet, reclining chairs, Wi-Fi and mobile phone-recharging system for passengers.

Bangladesh Railways procured 50 high-speed and modern coaches from Indonesia for new trains on different routes, including the Rajshahi-Dhaka one.

Railways Minister Nurul Islam Sujan delivered the congratulatory speech joining the inaugural ceremony from Rajshahi Railways Station. Rajshahi City Corporation Mayor AHM Khairuzzman Liton accompanied by many other dignitaries also attended the function at the Rajshahi end.

Principal Secretary Md Nojibur Rahman conducted the inaugural event at Ganobhaban, while Railways Secretary Md Mofazzel Hossain made a presentation over the non-stop train service as well as the activities and successes of Bangladesh Railways.

Repeat order is a testament of quality

Good news. It's good to see government is going ahead with it's masterplan to develop railway.

And since railway seems to be happy with the built in quality of the Indonesian rolling stock, it makes me curious whether they will pursue a JV with Indonesia to make them in Bangladesh.

Railway is trying to eshtablish a rolling stock manufacturing factory for some years, but stalling as they don't have the necessary funds.

BD railway is in pretty bad shape ... i've seen some vids on youtube and i could'nt believe what i saw
A common story in the subcontinent.

BD gov. under WB IMF influence has cut funds and seized all development projects of railway for last three decades, which created this mess. But we are trying to improve it for past few years.

Yes, I am aware of current railway development in Pakistan. Pak railway improved a lot due to recent investments under CPEC. Our railway still lacks large investments.

Someone has to convince the Railway ministers and bigwigs that they will have a way to skim money from these factories. Otherwise no go. :-)

But I'm certainly not unhappy to give our Indonesian brothers this business, everyone cannot (and should not) make everything, especially for now. Besides the quality is great - no complaints! :-)

Out of 7791 route km in Pakistan, only 1043 km is double line and only 285 km is electrified. Not that great.

What is the average speed of train? And what is the speed of fastest train?

But I am not jealous. I was actually quite surprised, because I have never came across any discussion or report about 'greatness' of Pak rail. I have heard and read about many good things about Indian railway and I believe many of those are true. but Pak railway?

This is a lie. Overcrowding happen in Pakistan. No doubt. I don't understand why are you trying to brag about something which is not true and can be easily refute with evidence.

This video is from 2017. And video quality do not suggest it to be that old. Do you have any proof that these scenes are ''very very old'' ?

I think its from 2010 or 2013 maybe , becuase even rickshaw drivers in Pakistan have smartphones now and video quality suggests that the video is captured by a simple camera mobile phone ...
