1. BD is emerging as a major shipbuilder. For sometime now we have been exporting ocean going vessels to Europe. The Dutch and the German owners have taken particular fascination for our quality.

2. Khulna S/Y and Narayanganj D/Y are operated by BN. They have already built smaller craft for BN, Coast Guard and Port Authorities. Local yards are also building naval craft. Khulna S/Y is undergoing upgrading to make larger vessels.

3. People are already saying, after RMG shipbuilding is emerging as BD's next sensation.

It'd be better to build commercial ones first. Military ships can be very complex projects to start with. So, one at a time :P

Might be, but still we should try!

Chittagong has potential to be a huge trading hub in Asia.

No doubt about that! It was in the past, but for some reasons lost its shape, but still got every potential for that!!

To start building military ships... one needs to first gain experience building one under TOT contract. The essential part is training the workforce to build such advance ships. Once the workforce is trained it is important to keep building more ships so that the skills are maintained.

Building subs is a whole new ball game. Needs industrial skill set in a different league.

When India built the initial subs, the workforce was trained, but lack of followup orders resulted in the skills being lost, so when scorpene subs were being built the learning curve was high again.
