PM green-lights new Sialkot-based airline to start operations

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan on Friday gave the go-ahead to the launch of a new private airline service from Sialkot International Airport Limited (SIAL).

The approval came during a meeting of PM’s Special Assistant on Youth Affairs Usman Dar, Minister for Privatisation and Aviation Mian Muhammad Soomro and the airline’s chairman Fazal Jilani with the prime minister in Islamabad. Sialkot’s business community will launch the airline from next year.

PM Khan welcomed the move to launch the airline, saying: “Sialkot is going to be an important hub for investment.” He vowed to provide all necessary facilities to the business community.

He said his government has been working on a comprehensive plan for the welfare of the community, adding that the airline would boost business activities and help reduce unemployment in the region.

The prime minister said the businessmen should come up with suggestions which his government would consider seriously.

Mr Jilani on the occasion said the airline would begin its operation next year and thanked the prime minister for extending support in this regard. Mr Soomro also welcomed the launch of the new airline.

I recently took flight from KHI to ISB on PIA and got served a full meal plus refreshments on a 2 hour flight.


In first world Canada on the other hand, if you take an Air Canada flight from Toronto to Calgary which is a 4 hour flight you would be lucky if you get a complimentary muffin. You have to purchase food if you want some.


Seems like PIA might be richer and more profitable than Air Canada.

The license fee is paid to the government not PM. It should be in millions i suppose. Good for business really.

I understand your point. Our people have been so accustomed to the rule of Nawaz, Shahbaz, Zardari, Benazir and the their teams, it is hard to understand how this deal could have gone through without bribing.

However being a member of Chamber of Commerce and a similar idea being worked on at our chamber, there have been meetings and detailed sharing with Sialkot Chamber and all this is only meant to promote business and drive economy. A good step if some private airline is being set up like this.

The governments refusal to get PIA in Order sickens me.

Great step! I am seriously impressed by karbobari tabqa of Sialkot, had kept an eye on this venture for some time. Keep it up guys. If they can sustain a quality service, they can give enough pressure to other airlines in Pakistan.



I am not sure if there is any such policy/provision for others to invest in PIA (or similar national ventures), and why would any sane person do that? PIA is a sinkhole.

What pia needs is just new aircrafts and we have more than 20 profitable destinations in few years pia xan get on its feet

ask big investors to invest abd look after airline as CEO when airlune get on its feet take you share and profit from investment and keep running airline us a win win for all of Us

Buy Two old A 380 from emirates on dry lease for hajj operation in one go u can rake 875 passangers fully loaded with hajis will be better for hajis for seats availability
