Pentagon to work with Pakistani military on differences

Despite the troubled U.S.- Pakistani relationship, the Pentagon said Tuesday that it will continue to work with its Pakistani counterpart to resolve the differences.

"We want to maintain a relationship with Pakistan that's grounded in common interests, to include going after terrorists that threaten both countries," Pentagon Press Secretary George Little told reporters.

"There are differences from time to time in the relationship with Pakistan, as there are in any partnership," he said. "Those differences have been made public, and we continue to discuss ( them) in private."

The remarks came as ties between the U.S. and Pakistan was strained after top U.S. defense officials accused Pakistan's intelligence agency of supporting the Haqqani network blamed for recent attacks on the U.S. embassy and a military base in Afghanistan.

The harsh criticism was met with outright denial and outrageous reaction from Pakistan which warned that Washington may lose an ally of the war on terror.

Despite the bickering, Little said the Pentagon looks forward to working with the Pakistanis to try to resolve such differences.

"It's important that both sides continue the dialogue," he added, "and that's happening."

Never hurts for Pakistan to turn on the nuclear weapons from stand by to ready mode 3-4 should finish the war in Afghanistan for good

Ahan

america things we cant live without them and they are our remote control

just two tough words from our govt and now they are on line

VCHENG is an Amercian.

:pop:
No i have had some interesting chats with him. He does have some valid points sometimes. We can be pakistanis and disagree. We mist be tolerant and discuss until we agree or agree to disagree. What im trying to say is he has legit concerns whereas likes of solo man is a sad person who is not pakistani who likes to upset pakistanis like it gives him some kind of kick doing so

Nothing to happy, that's retreat before stronger reaction just like tranquil water before storm. Pakistan should prepare for any attack from any aggressor with different tactics.

The US is not an enemy. It is beneficial for both the US & Pakistan to have an amicable relationship, but Pakistan must not be swayed by the US to act against its national security interests.

When did I say that he doesn't have "valid" points? All I said is that he is an American. Anything wrong with that?

Nice move by Pentagon. I guess smart people are sitting there. They know war is not useful all the time. Anyways good to hear positive response from US part. The things they can do on table can't be done otherwise, regarding the problems they are facing at hand.

Cat goes back in the bag , just don't bring it out again close to your elections. Thank you very much :usflag:

We should remember that the terrorist organizations like the TTP or the Haqqani network are neither the friends of people nor do they wish to see our nations prosper. Their long list of crimes proves that not only are they more than capable of taking innocent lives; they will continue to strike at our interests in order to further their violent and extremist agenda. Both governments carry the responsibility of providing a safe and stable environment for their citizens, and showing any leniency towards these terrorist organizations could only result in more innocent deaths. The focus at the moment is on how our governments do not see eye to eye and whether this relationship will finally falter. While the differences have emerged from the recent debacle, we should not forget that this is not the first time our governments have held different points of view. To say the least, both nations have been able to overcome the disagreements and differences in our decade-long war on terrorism, and together we have achieved great success. We have been able to target some of the top terrorist leaders, while continuing to make progress in Afghanistan. Growing difficulties in Pakistan only emphasize the need for both nations to continue cooperating for the sake of clearing the region of terrorism. The enemy certainly wishes that we would part ways, so that the grip that continues to tighten around their neck might start loosening.

Well well, this is not happy ending story. Bear in mind, there will be more blames coming soon and harsh words exchanging.

Raymond caught, US and Pakistan back to work together
OBL raid raid, US and Pakistan back to work together again
Attack Embassy blaming games, US and Pakistan back again.

At current point, the options on the table remain by US still open, so we do.

The American penchant to browbeat foreign governments into subservient behaviour will be counter productive in Pakistan. Pakistan is not Iraq or Afghanistan. Unlike Iraq and Afghanistan which have a population of 30 million each, Pakistan is one of the World's most populated Country ( approaching 200 million ). If America wants Pakistan to look after its national interest it must understand and support Pakistan's national interest. All successful relationships operate on appreciation of this " two way street" concept, pure and simple. America wants Pakistan to look after its national interest but it has been undermining Pakistan's national interest in Pakistan's own backyard. This is the main reason why this relationship has been so rocky.

Americans are quick to point out the 10 billion usd they have given to Pakistan. They are totally oblivious to the fact Pakistan has suffered a financial loss to the tune of 70 billion usd fighting America's " War on Terror ". Since 2001 Pakistan has paid dearly in loss of life (over 35,000 civilian deaths not including the death of over 3000 Armed forces personnel). Keep in mind that not one of the attackers of 9/11 was a Pakistani, and yet Pakistan had to pay this heavy price fighting America's " War on Terror ". Adding insult to injury, America breaks international law by violating Pakistan's sovereignty and kills Pakistani civilians ( women and children, America calls collateral damage). In a just world America would be hauled in world court for " Crimes against Humanity". Unfortunately we live in a " Might is Right " kind of World.
