Pakistan started fencing certain areas of the border in May last year. Iran has resisted the move, of which Senate of Pakistan was informed by Frontier Constabulary Balochistan on May 10, 2019.

Pakistan Iran Border Smuggling Is a huge source of Foreign Currency to Iran. Not only they are flooding the border region with their cheap oil they are also involved in Illicit Drug trade. To give an Idea in 2018 ANF seized 152 tonnes of drugs from Baluchistan. A lot of big pockets are filled via this illicit trade Iran wont just go with it. Another factor is that these same routes are sometimes used by Liwa Zainebeyoun Fighter Iran Recruits from Pakistan.

Pakistan should go for the same extensive border management System here that it has planned for Durand line. A simple Fence wont be enough.

The illegal trade is so large and ingrained with various "powerfull people" that major authorities are refusing the fencing.
I have heard plenty of first hand stories regarding smuggling which makes me think that the illicit trade will never stop

Very rightly said. Iranians here come and brag, reality is they are short on food too. Majority trade going on in border areas is illegal. I have been there and they are flooding the area with low quality cheap iranian oil, drugs, chocolates, zafraan etc and all illegal and they mostly want dollars. The guys with DC office told me even women are sold and smuggled through. Pakistan is actually worried about iranian behavior and their covert activities, but i wonder why govt is silent and not making these issues public.

This shows which of the two countries is actually serious about stopping cross border terrorism and smuggling?
Pakistan despite being the poorer of the two is spending money while mozzlamic republic of Iraon only complains and provokes Pakistani Shia against Pakistan via imam bargah network. At the same time recruiting Pakistani citizens as Zeynabiyoon to fight Iranian war abroad.

you have to remember Iran doesnt have a very capable military like Pakistan. Iranians complain bcos they are not able to do so.

Why not improve and retrain the Balochestan Levies forces and the kasadar forces like Pak has done with the FC? arm and retrain them with the latest weapons and equipment. Currently they seem to be a rag tag militia operating huge barren mountinous lands on pickup trucks.

COAS General Qamar Javed Bajwa called Chief of the Armed Forces of Iran Maj Gen Bagheri. COAS expressed concerns on recent terrorist attack on Pak security forces resulting in shahadat of 6 security personnel near Pak-Iran border. Both Commanders resolved to enhance security measures on either side of the border. COAS said that Pakistan has started fencing the border but will require mutual bilateral cooperation to ensure border security and stem smuggling activity which is also used by terrorists and Narco traffickers for covering their movement. Both also discussed Covid 19 and need to improve border terminals to address such issues. COAS reiterated Pakistan’s desire for regional peace and stability on basis of mutual respect, non interference and equality.
