Pakistan village renamed Midlands after charity helps

A village in Pakistan devastated by flooding has been renamed Midlands after a West Midlands charity raised money to help rebuild it.

Walsall-based Midland International Aid Trust raised £113,000 to help the 20 million people thought to be affected by the monsoon floods last year.

The village of Lal Pir, now named Midlands, had been cut off by water.

Mohammed Aslam MBE, the trust's founder, has been visiting the country to oversee how the aid is spent.

Mr Aslam, 71, originally from Kashmir, said he wanted to make sure every penny of aid went to the people living in the region.

He said in August he could only reach Lal Pir by boat.

Now all 36 homes which were destroyed have been rebuilt, at a cost of £2,000 each, after the charity provided the villagers with materials and tools.

The floods struck the north of the country in August. At least 1,500 died in the deluge.

We have Abbotabad also named after Major General James Abbot James Abbott (Indian Army officer) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Also Jacobabad named after Brig-General John Jacob
John Jacob (East India Company officer) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Faisalabad was formerly known as Lyallpur as it was made during colonial times. The name was later changed to Faisalabad after the late King Faisal of Saudi Arabia

You forgot Warburton:

Warburton is a mid sized town in the Punjab province of Pakistan. It is about 15 kilometres (9.3 mi) north of Nankana Sahib and southeast of Sheikhupura. The town was named after a British army officer during British rule (pre 1947 era). His residence at that time was turned to a high school which is still functional.

Warburton's population was estimated around 50,000 in 2007 and is growing rapidly. Warburton has its own government hospital, a high school for boys and girls, a police station, a post office, approximately seven banks, one main bazaar also called "bara bazar" and "bano bazar", and more than 10 middle schools. There is a network of well developed roads throughout the town. Warburton has its own railway station. Warburton is well known for its agriculture.

This way we will soon end up remainging the whole country to Untied States of Pakistan or Kingdom of Pakistan

Thats interesting to know , I didnt know about Warburton.

One question does come to mind , and that is .. Why? Why should we continue to have these names ? I mean these are in some ways reminders of the opression that was thrust upon our people

Perhaps we just dont care or dont think this to be unsual but if one stands at a distance and then looks at these things these do seem a bit odd.
