ISLAMABAD, Pakistan, Feb. 13 (UPI) -- Pakistan's federal police are seeking the extradition of former President Pervez Musharraf from Britain to stand trial on terrorism charges, the agency said.

The Federal Investigation Agency said it had written to British Home Secretary Theresa May to force the former military dictator back to Islamabad, the Press Trust of India reported Sunday.

Officials allege Musharraf was aware of plans to assassinate former two-time Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto in 2007 and orchestrated security to allow it to happen.

Saturday, a Pakistani court issued an arrest warrant for the 68-year-old general who led the country from 1999 through 2008 in what is widely considered a dictatorship.

"Musharraf was equally responsible for facilitation and complicity in the assassination of Benazir Bhutto through failure in providing her the requisite security that her status demanded as a twice-elected premier," the prosecution documents allege.

Musharraf fled to London in August 2008 under threat of impeachment.

I do not think Pakistan should do this, nor I think it will happen. One has to understand he was your president and it maligns your image in the world.
I feel sad that in current decade 1 President and 2 PM have to live in excile. This is not good.

why cant they just leave Musharraf alone..He was by far one of the best rulers the country had....

And that's the problem. If he wasn't a good person he wouldn't be living outside Pakistan and would probably be living in a billion dollar house like Nawaz. He is a threat in the 2013 elections due to his massive following. If he comes back to power then it wont be good for the enemies of Pakistan.

Mushraff definately had handlers in the CIA and MI5 but once for sure he may be a double game but is not anti-Pakistan. He did all he could for his country.

Not commenting on his guilt or innocence, but considering the charges it is possible some may demand the death penalty be an option. I belive the British refuse to extradite people to any country where they may face the death penalty. All he would have to do is prove in court there is a chance of that happening in Pakistan and he could stay in England as long as he likes.

^^they can easily take death penalty off the table. Brits should allow the extradition, if it expects pakistan to extradite anyone to the UK in future.

Has there been any leader of Pakistan, who has not been removed from power forcibly or hasn't had a court case running against him, or hasn't been sentenced to death or assassinated, except of course for Mr. Jinnah? Pretty disturbing trend:Confused:
