Nuclear power plants in Karachi and Chashma are operating safely.

The Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission (PAEC) said on Tuesday that nuclear power plants in Karachi and Chashma were operating safely.

The commission said that continuous monitoring of country’s nuclear plants was being made in the wake of the recent earthquake and tsunami in Japan. The commission said in its statement that Pakistan’s nuclear plants were regulated by the Pakistan Nuclear Regulatory Authority (PNRA).

“There is also a Safety Division at the PAEC headquarters which provides safety oversight. Moreover, there are several built-in features in our nuclear plants to handle accidents” it added.

Good! Any untoward incident in a Pakistani Nuclear plant would have a direct impact on India.

Nobody wants to see a repeat of Chernobyl or Japan.
