Pakistan Army to Take Over Electricity Distribution Companies ..... to Better Serve the Nation

Pakistan Army decided to clean the house and send elected government packing back in April 2022 in name of inefficient management. Since then, due to dismal performance of PDM and then caretaker set-up, army had to take over federal hospitals, NAB, WAPDA and NADRA. And somewhere among all this, Army decided to run country's fiances in the form of SIFC.

Now newspapers are reporting the Army is thinking of taking over the Electricity Distribution Companies. Apparently an active duty Brigadier rank officer would oversee each of theses companies.

"According to officials privy to the development, a serving brigadier and his supporting staff comprising officials from the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) and Intelligence Bureau (IB) will oversee matters at the Performance Monitoring Units (PMUs) to be established in in all the loss-making Discos".

Why should a Chief of Army Staff in any country be responsible for resolving power generation and distribution? There is no country that this happens, and it should totally remain in the civilian domain.

If we do want this to happen, then there should be a formal declaration of martial law to rubber stamp this responsibility (although we're more or less experiencing that today).

It seems like elections, whenever they are held would be just a formality and the elected officials will have a very limited scope.

I am not sure if Nawaz will be willing to work in that kind of role. Good chances are things go back to ‘99.

The entire Saudi Arabia is ruled by one family. It is not like the people in Saudi Arabia love their king and don't want to see democracy in Saudi Arabia but the Royal Family is so powerful that they have installed a member of their family in every department. So whoever you complain, will return the complain to the same family.

Slowly slowly we are handing over the state organisations to beloved Army. They don't need to control an organisation by recruiting 50,000 army officers, all they need to do is take the top level positions and they will be controlling the organisation.

The bottom line of this argument is that Suparco was a great organisation before we removed a PHD head of Suparco and replaced him with BA pass retired officer from the Army. We have done the same for many organisations and majority of loss making organisations have had army officers at some point in past or present but it did not solve the problem.

We need professionals to do the job. An accountant should do the job of an accountant, a lawyer should do the job of legal matters, the doctor should work in a hospital and the Army officer should serve his energy at the border. If we start giving management position to Army officers, may be health sector to a lawyer and economy to a doctor they will only spoil the sector as they are not fit for the job

The tragedy is that the action of a few is tarnishing the whole army / institution.

I still make the distinction (and we all should) between those destroying Pakistan at the top within the military, and the average fauji who is sacrificing his life in the face of attacks.

We're all proud and patriotic about the Pakistan Armed Forces. Again, the blame for the current ill will that exists lies with Munira and his band of brutal brothers.

An institution that doesn't have a mechanism to self correct, or can't hold hands of a few top few who're damaging the state, is not an institution by definition. That's a driver-less, direction-less steem engine thats running over people and whoever gets on its front. Like a mad elephant walking over the houses people plants and vegetables.

Distinguish between people in the institution and institution itself. Soldiers of institution are victims of the institution as well, but they're also the instrument that's causing havoc upon the nation.

Now ask again, would you love this unguided mindless elephant anymore? Its within the boundaries of Pakistan, yes, its is built employing people of Pakistan, yes but it doesn't work for Pakistan, but its rather destroy Pakistan without giving logic, reasoning or explanation.
