Why does restructuring have to be at generals level. I think we should start from bottom up, loo at operational commands at lower and middle level and takes steps for increasing efficiency. When we achieve that we can look at top brass

His suggestion kills the "Leadership" factor, on which the whole concept of Military is based on.

Defence experts and many ex-servicemen have also proposed transformation of the Armed forces. The 21st century requires a Military which is divided into commands. All the commands report to the Prime Minister, basically we are taking example out of US Military. The Military needs to adapt to the changing times soon, these restructuring have been ignored for decades but WoT should be enough of a lesson for us.

It doesn't just reduces the chances of a coup but will also enhance the capabilities of our armed forces.

He reports but is centre of command,he bears burden of every ops.He directs the ops.

Pakistan Armed forces need restructuring , four four star generals should be given the command of North South and East and West Boarders , they should report to General Chief of Army Staff . The position of COAS is no more required . It will eliminate the danger of martial Law in country . Pakistan suffered lot of economical losses in 35 years of martial law rule. The armed forces should be reduced to 150000 to 250000 regular army . All adult citizen of Pakistan male and female should be trained and they should serve the defence forces for 40 days per year. The 75% armed budget can be utilized in high tech weapons and space satellites, research and development , development of 5th generation fighter planes ,missile defence systems and drones technology.

Who are you einstien ? Pakistani or Indian or american ? Do you know post of COAS is to make the army fight a war, why are you so concerned about Martial Law ? who will command 4 x 4 star generals? how will be issues resolved ? do you want to push the army in internal war? DO you have the data of your so called economic loss during civil and miltary rule ? Did some one tell you that economy did well under martial laws than civil rule ?

Bhai commands are normally required when an Army is operating in various theatres. Pakistan army does not need 4 commands as we are fighting in one contiguous piece of land. stop giving examples of US army. They have 600 billion dollars budget, you have 8 billion dollar budget r u mad ?

I think JCOAS should be given power of appointing chief of ISI,NCA and ISPR and they should report to JCOAS. Plus All chief should report directly to him which will give sense of reporting to someone for tri Chief in there internal structure. Right now tri Chiefs are reporting to PM who don't have command on operational issue. JCOAS should be given power of intellectual institution of armed forces and all chief should look after operational matter. JCOAS should be called ceremonial Five start General.

You have no idea what you are talking about and I will not waste my time talking to someone who has no knowledge of the subject. You linking the command structure to budget is a clear example of it.

Pakistan has done better economically under Ayub and Zia then under PPP or MNL. Ppp has been a disaster. Nawaz Sharif was a big disappointment for me personally, I expected more.

I am now convinced that east asia should be the role model. S korea in particular is a lesson for Pakistan. It was a military junta that pushed S korea into prosperity. General park chung hee and the economic planning board developed and initiated the "heavy chemical industrialization plan" that made S korea a economic power.

If politicians are afraid of militry take over then they should start delivering and serving the country instead of filling their own bellies. Military only took over in Pakistan when politicians brought the country to its brink , whether it was Sikander Mirza , or Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto , or musical chair of Nawaz and Benazir . Military is not interested in ruling and will always be behind a politician who will lead the country in right direction !

Being IK in the government, I also don't want a military coup, just wanted to enlighten him with the facts as he had mentioned that Martial law has done bad for Pakistan's economy

I have two questions

1)Why is CJCOSC always from the army???
2)Is there a JSOC like org in Pakistan armed forces where all the Special Groups of tri-services can sit together and plan together. And combine/share their intel sources, manpower, resources etc???

Not always from army. 2nd, 6th were from navy and 8th CJCSC was from PAF.
