Pak Suzuki Increases Prices on All Car Models -- Even More $$ for Junk!

I think the argument being made was with respect to used imported car having a better value than a new Mehran. Used refurb imports which fall within the same price range.

Outside of price... safety is an often overlooked critical item by most Pakistani buyers. Would any sane person put their family in a tin box without ANY basic safety features and would crumble like a tissue upon any slight impact??
Safety features from the last 20 years that every other car has incorporated except Suzuki...

Hence the term "idiot"... its more generic term rather than a personal target... it represents a very poor thought process.
Used cars are very cheap in UK and even cars which you get in price range of £200 to £300 would be 10 times better than new mehran but People told me that its very expensive to import used cars in Pakistan from Europe or anywhere else ..too much taxes and import charges ..

what kind of an idiot is going to buy their cars!!??
Whole Pakistani nation dear !
What else options you people got ?

I reckon they have sensed out that after introduction of the new arrivals in Pakistani Market no one will give a f*** about their cars anymore. Hence, apply a strategy that can bring a quick hefty revenue in a very short period of time and get the hell out of here.
Much hyped new arrivals are just in news. Won't believe until their products are running on Pakistani roads.

I never said you are not Pakistani :D
but i will not call you idiot for driving Mehran because you cannot afford Honda or toyota..I agree that mehran and others suzuki cars should cost less than half of their current market prices but they are still cheapest cars available and thats the only reason people on tight budget opt for them

it's expensive because (if i am not wrong), Government of Pakistan charges Custom duty which sometimes even exceed from what you have paid for that car, which you want to import.

And the Irony is, when you go in the ascending order of cc's. i.e; 600cc, 800cc, 1000cc Custom duty decreases. So it's more "expensive" for a "ghareeb Pakistani" to import a regular used car then a "raees zaada" who want to import a brand new sport's car.

Yes I agree, but that's not how the other competitors in the market look at it, they create their strategies and execute right before plunge in the market hit them hard.

Also, demand might be decreasing hence the price increase to stay with the yearly returns.

I thought the same way in the begining but than I came across with this news; take a look at it please;

In the backdrop of the surge in passenger car sales that recently crossed 200,000 units for the first time in Pakistan, all of the country's automakers are planning production increases to satisfy brisk domestic demand.

Pakistan saw a record high of roughly 218,000 passenger cars sold in fiscal 2016, which ended last June. The leader was Pak Suzuki Motor, a subsidiary of Suzuki Motor, which landed an order from the eastern province of Punjab for 50,000 cars. The province's government plans to use the vehicles as taxis as part of a job-creation program.

Speaking of the Pakistani auto industry, what happened to Sitara- the Pak Nano. Hopefully, it has not bombed like the Indian Nano.

Regards

Unfortunately middle class income households are stuck with Suzuki as all other cars, even the 660 cc ones, cost more than 1 million now and they are all second hand. The common wisdom is that at least you get a brand new car when buying Suzuki Mehran. Unless new locally assembled/ manufactured cars are introduced in each category, the price of cars will not come down.

Off topic: I have not seen any post discussing that Cars will only one which adheres to Euro4 or Euro5 engines. IS there any criteria for imported pre-owned stuff?

Pakistanis start thinking of selling before buying. If they stop caring about resale value, it will be good for new entrants and for themselves as well.

Isn't it regarded as a more logical act to reduce prices in order to stimulate decreasing demand? On the other hand, if they can sell all the units produced at an even higher price, then their strategy of increasing prices is fully justified to produce the best yearly returns.

You're talking about the Ford Model T strategy. It worked wonders back then and might also be a good strategy in modern Pak auto market. With Suzuki registering a 54% decrease in their sales, this strategy might help keep the Mehran in the market for 5 more years. But they will have to reduce the price of Mehran a lot for this strategy to succeed. Right now, there biggest competitors are imported cars. A five to seven year old model of Mira etc costs the same as a fully loaded Mehran but gives much more in comfort, safety, features etc.
