Pak court dispenses justice in Islamic way

Lahore: In an example of dispensing justice in an Islamic way, a Pakistani court confirmed the interim bail of six top government officials after they swore on the Quran that they were innocent in a corruption case involving millions of rupees.

During a hearing of the matter last week, a division bench of the Lahore High Court headed by Chief Justice Ijaz Chaudhry took strict notice of the constant extension in the interim bail of the accused over the past year and announced it would give a decision on confirming their bail at the next hearing.



Yesterday, when proceedings started in the High Court, the Chief Justice asked the accused to take oath on the Quran in order to decide the matter without further delay.

The accused took an oath on the Quran and claimed they had not committed any corruption or embezzled even a single rupee.

At this, the Chief Justice confirmed their interim bail and directed the accused to deposit Rs 500,000 each as surety.

The Anti-Corruption Establishment had registered a case against the six officials in June last year on the direction of the Punjab government.

Parks and Horticulture Authority officers Tahir Ijaz, Akhtar Mehmood, Zulfiqar Sulehria, Muhammad Boota, Saeed Ahmad and Azhar Sulehria were found involved in a case of alleged corruption involving Rs 52.5 million.

An anti-corruption court rejected the bail applications of the accused but they secured interim bail from the High Court last year.

Stupid.. like no one ever swore on the Quran before and lied through their teeth.
There have been cases of Christians who swore on the bible and were much more honest in their statement than these hypocritical lowlifes.. both the accused.. and the jury.

There have been cases of Christians who swore on the bible and were much more honest in their statement than these hypocritical lowlifes.. both the accused.. and the jury.

Sir I don't know of Christians but I know of some people who lied on Quran and within few hours some disease or some other thing happened to them one even died and within no time his body was giving the worst kind of smell I ever have smelled

Sir I don't know of Christians but I know of some people who lied on Quran and within few hours some disease or some other thing happened to them one even died and within no time his body was giving the worst kind of smell I ever have smelled

Most of your leaders took an oath under the Quran, the CJs who approved Martial laws took oath under the Quran.
Many witnesses in false cases took the oath under the Quran.. and many of these people are prospering today.
Yes, Allah does strike when he does, but at this stage.. since the whole nation is no better.. people can lie, cheat and spread deceit using the Quran.. and nothing will happen to them...at least it hasn't till now.

Sir for your information the don't take oath on Quran go check it for yourself they just have a piece of paper with them no Quran when they take oath

Stupid headlines from stupid toilet media. This was a standard procedure of bail which required monetary guarantee. Taking oath on the book is part of the procedure too. Thanks to the lousy and rotten english penal code, the same would be true in India..take out the colonial legacy and bring in a legal system like Saudi Arabia.

There is nothing wrong with the British legal system. It is the application of this legal system in both the countries that is faulty. Anyway there are good and honest judges and also bad and dishonest judges every where. This may be a case of dishonesty where dubious criminals have been let off on bail by swearing on the holy book which is definitely not the legal procedure. On the other hand, if the police has failed to file charge sheet for more than one year due to lack of hard evidence, this itself may have compelled the judge to grant bail on humanitarian grounds. Not enough is known about the case to assume that the judge is guilty. The fault may lie with the investigative agency which forced the hand of the judge.
