With NATO going home the ANA is going to lose its biggest tool against insurgency, the precision strikes and air intelligence i.e drones.

Hoping that Ashraf Ghani will seek deeper counterinsurgency cooperation with Pakistan and would prove to be a friend unlike Karzai, we should offer ANA the air cover it won't have nor would be able to build anytime soon.

If Kabul agrees, there can be a 'joint' COIN strategy as per which the Afghan and Pakistani SOF can be operated in coordination against mutual threats, since the insurgency is likely to expand.

PAF's F-16C/D Block52+ fleet carries more fuel in Conformal Fuel Tanks which gives it ~30% more range and increased loiter time. PAF also operates UAV which can loiter for 12 hours.

We face a mutual threat from insurgents and drug runners. If Afghanistan is willing to coop, should we extend per request air strikes for ANA or not? - pros and cons?

Stay civil and discuss.

No we shouldn't !

Our first priority should be to mine & fence the border & in the meantime come up with some financing options for it !

Let the Afghans do what they do best - Unite & fight off an Invader & once the Invader leaves.....Fight amongst each other to the terrible ruin of their country & their people !

Our job is to ensure that their fighting is confined to Afghanistan !

Great idea.

But NATO is not going "home" anytime soon.

Or if you insist on such integration, Pakistan can always work with NATO to provide air cover on Afghanisani provinces in East and South.

AFGHANISTAN will never cooperate with us as the indian lobby there is very strong and they will never let Pak-Afghan relations to boost.
Also,we don`t need to seek their permision for attacks inside afghanistan as it is a safe heaven for terrorists. And Afghanistan is neither doing anything against terrorists nor is cooperating

1. ANA is not allowed to call in foreign air support even today due to a Karzai policy - Only Commandos and APUs are able to call in support.

2. BSA covers all needed air support in the next 10 years.

3. in 4 years Afghanistan will be able to fulfill more than half of it need air support with 20 A-29's.

4. 18 PC-12NG will be delivered for surveillance and reconnaissance.

So no thanks.

There is no need for such adventure in afghanistan untill needed as last resort. it will be waste of power and resources. Taliban in afghanistan are formidable. We should focus on making attempts to secure our border for all kinds of illegal activities.

You are still here, anyway get real. Afghanistan is occupied country, and if it wasn't for $15 billion USA give Afghanistan every year both Abdullah and Ghani were ready for civil war over elections. Only John Kerry last minute warning of stopping aid in case of civil war made sure both leaders backed out.

And one more thing USA aka your daddy you are so proud of is leaving in 2016 with remaining 10k. Your other daddy Bharat mata, well its not even worth mentioning here. Don't depend on Bharat mata to much.

Agreed.

But if attacks from Kunr continue, there will be strong voices in Pakistan to taken action.

True. My concern is that when it hits the fan in Afghanistan, we are going to get tremors. One way or another we would have to continue air strikes inside border provinces of Afghanistan for the foreseeable future. What would we do under such circumstances?

You clearly have no understanding of 'close air support'.

They simply can import The chinese CH-3 or CH-4 and do it on their own.

CH-3 or 4 are not suited for 'Time sensitive strikes', otherwise known as surgical strikes.

We have very limited time to take out TTP bases in Afghanistan. Nato will be be gone by years end and current operation must be concluded within 3-5 months so we can focus our attention on Kunar and Nuristan.

This will be done with or without Afghan govt. We cannot have militant crossing the border and attacking our checkposts and killing our good men.

That is one aspect of the policy as PA plans to train the FC further, arm its special ops wing and dig in for well into the future. Second leg of the strategy is hot persuit and surgical strikes on TTP, as its not going anywhere.

sad, bitter, blunt reality....

What if whats going on in Helmand keeps spreading? - If Afghan Taliban, grow strong and succeed in something like ISIS has been able to do, the TTP is going to be rejuvenated.
