Overseas Pakistanis Commission (OPC) Act is being amended, besides introducing positive reforms to further improve the function of the organization.

LAHORE, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 1st Jan, 2019 ) :Overseas Pakistanis Commission (OPC) Act is being amended, besides introducing positive reforms to further improve the function of the organization.

This was stated by OPC Punjab Vice Chairperson Waseem Akhtar while addressing a gathering of Overseas Pakistanis in Dubai, says a press release issued here on Tuesday.

He said that in accordance with the vision of Prime Minister Imran Khan, effective measures were being taken by the OPC to secure the rights of Pakistanis living abroad.

Waseem Akhtar explained the redressal mechanism to the participants and told that satisfaction of the complainant is the ultimate objective of OPC, hence regular feedback till the resolution of the complaints is ensured.

@Dubious

This OPC should be further developed into an AIPAC-like Pakistani lobby organization, which could facilitate Pakistani interests worldwide (especially in UK & USA). Like always, Pakistan has the perfect base for success - just grasp this opportunity.

Well in my honest opinion when I was abroad, OPC only played the role of a gunda tax collector...Where they collected some fee from us and gave us some membership number but never took any further steps...

I hope the bloody commission does something beneficial for the money they take!

I looked it up. This is what they say is the purpose of OPC:

The overseas Pakistanis have been facing problems mainly as classified below:

  • Property disputes and housing societies
  • Family disputes
  • Criminal cases
  • Telephone connection/problems
  • Electricity connections/problems
  • Sui Gas connections/problems
  • Water connections
  • Travel Agents & Airlines related cases
  • Employment requests/recommendations
  • Financial matters/disputes
  • Bank related matters
  • Co-operative Societies claims
  • Advisory services/general information and any other nature of complaints

Unfortunate. It is a perfect lobby organization but instead of exerting influence on politicians in Washington, London and Brussels, they work in Islamabad, Lahore and Karachi. They're doing quite the opposite of what I wanted them to do.

Are you a member of OPC?

No. To be honest the way we are treated is nothing less then scandalous. We are treated like a milch cow. At every turn we get 'scalped' for money but then are the first to get questioned about our patriotism. However we expect things to change now. Imran Khan's recieve huge funding and support from ex-pats and he does acknowledge us at every speach as the 'largest asset' Pakistan has. I expect some good stuff from PM Khan's special assistent on overseas Pakistani's Zulfi Bukhari.
