Demonstrators attend a pro-government rally organized by authorities in Iran.-AP

After days of protests across Iran last month, Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei appeared impatient. Gathering his top security and government officials together, he issued an order: Do whatever it takes to stop them.

That order, confirmed by three sources close to the supreme leader's inner circle and a fourth official, set in motion the bloodiest crackdown on protesters since the Islamic Revolution in 1979.

About 1,500 people were killed during less than two weeks of unrest that started on November 15. The toll, provided by three Iranian interior ministry officials, included at least 17 teenagers and about 400 women as well as some members of the security forces and police.

The toll of 1,500 is significantly higher than figures from international human rights groups and the United States. A December 16 report by Amnesty International said the death toll was at least 304.

It's as if both Iran and Saudi Arabia are in a race to be the most hated Muslim nations in the world.

What?? How?? WTF!?

You know, I think it's seriously sad that such things are happening.

Persecution of Palestianians by Israel.
How the Uighurs are being detained in China.
How the democratic rights of people in Hong Kong is being taken away from them.
How Kashmiris have been under lockdown in India.
How muslims are being largely discriminated and shifted into a category of second class citizens in India.
How muslims were driven out by Bhuddists, and killed.
How syrian refugees have been treated by the world.
Now, how Iran is clamping down on protestors.

When we selectively choose to address issues, we are putting national interests over human rights, we have no right to cry foul, and we have no right to expect the world to put human rights over national interests as well then.

Such things become norm. The response is muted, at most there is UN intervening only to say "You weren't supposed to do that."

Welcome to a new, multi polar world. Where no one can do anything about anything. We done fucked up.

It's a huuge crime....

khaleejtimes... come on

One source. Every media is reporting it. I choose Khaleej times because we have members here who believe it is more reliable. Then I put TRT because some people think that is better, then I put up Reuters because some people trust that more.

There are others among human rights group. Amnesty already reported 300+.
Iran Human Rights Monitor reported 500+.
UNHCR acknowledges it.

What more left?

khaleejtimes... come on

Is it a surprise eitherway? Just search up major protests in Iran in the last 20 years. Slowly the frequency is increasing.

This phenomenon has already been predicted....Muslims would be numerous but not capable of doing anything...

Thauban reported that the messenger of Allah said: "It is near that the nations will call one another against you just as the eaters call one another to their dishes." Somebody asked: "Is this because we will be few in numbers that day?" He said: "Nay, but that day you shall be numerous, but you will be like the foam of the sea, and Allah will take the fear of you away from your enemies and will place weakness into your hearts." Somebody asked: "What is this weakness?" He said: "The love of the world and the dislike of death (Afterlife & Paradise)." (Abu Daud)

Protests are a natural part of any country, due to controversial issues or uncomfortable policies.

And the reason they get violent is because the Government refuses to even acknowledge or listen, chooses to just brush it off. Like in India. In such cases, you can't justify killing them either because you forced them to that point.

Saner countries like Sweden where they throw in a public vote will stay good. For countries like Pakistan, the people aren't on the edge yet.

Well the protests in Iran started because of the bad economy, which is hindered by the sanction. :D

Iran is a snack and no friend of Pakistan. If the west doesn't overrun them, then Pakistan will. At some point.
