I find it rather tasteless and pointless to discuss skin tones and petty things like this really does not matter to me. I know Southies are a bit more obsessed with it.

Bengalis genetically are not as dark as those folks who live near the equator. Especially in Eastern Bengal they have interchanged with mongoloid genetic signatures and are a bit yellower than in mainland India. But like elsewhere in India, there is a preference for lighter skinned girls. There is migration of indigenous Australoid laborer underclass folks from other regions in India (especially BIMARU states and the South), who happen to be darker.

I discriminate on the basis of merit and wit, not on skin color. ;-)

Interesting that Southern Pakistan falls into same band of skin color as most of Western and South India. Not that I care - but goes against some of the things some trolls here are touting.
