Political rhetoric becoming dangerously irresponsible

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said that the Padma Bridge corruption is due to the activities of the last BNP government, and not due to hers. What a revelation! As if our people know nothing about the World Bank's findings. As if the World Bank has not already made its position public. As if we in the media have not printed the contents of the World Bank's letter to our government. As if her ministers have not already commented on the matter over the past few weeks. As if the Asian Development Bank, and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (Jica) have not already made public their positions.

Not to be left behind, our opposition leader said on the same day that Jamaat Ameer Motiur Rahman Nizami, Moulana Sayedee, and Jamaat Secretary General Ali Ahsan Mohammad Mojaheed did not work against our Liberation War in 1971, and that they all had been arrested under false charges. What a revelation! As if all the freedom fighters who fought in 1971 are dead. As if those who are eyewitnesses to their activities during '71 have been harbouring an illusion for the last 40 years. As if newspaper, radio and TV reports of the period, which have been preserved in the archives of international media houses, are all lies. As if those of us who lived in occupied East Pakistan and saw the daily TV reportage of Pakistan Television in which these people appeared frequently were all fictitious. As if people's demand for a trial of war criminals is meaningless and delusional. As if Al Badr, Al Shams and other such killing machines created by the Pakistanis did not exist. As if our intellectuals were not killed by the Bangladeshi collaborators of Pakistani army.

How tragic that our two foremost leaders -- and both two-time prime ministers -- can so disregard history, can be so cavalier about facts and so fundamentally irresponsible about their public statements.

If our PM has genuine evidence linking the present Padma Bridge scandal to the former BNP regime, she should make it public. Now that she has publicly said so, providing supporting evidence has become obligatory. If she fails then her credibility will greatly suffer, and all her other claims will become justly suspect. The government press note issued yesterday does not make any mention of former BNP government's corruption in the Padma Bridge scandal.

Khaleda Zia's recent statements have increasingly revealed a desperation on her part to embrace the Jamaat. Obviously it is for political gain. But does political gain have to be earned by destroying what is unquestionably our greatest achievement -- our freedom struggle? We can try to understand her desperation. But what we cannot understand is her eagerness to bring into question the facts of our Liberation War just to gain the Jamaat's favour. Why does she have to equate the War Crimes Trial with the need to try the Rakkhi Bahini? We have argued earlier that equating war crimes with crimes committed afterwards amounts to trivialising our freedom struggle, and diminishing the glory of the sacrifice of our martyrs.

We will all accept that the present ruling party has made many mistakes (abolishing the caretaker government system being a major one), and that many of their leaders are now indulging in corruption and anti-people activities. But to call them the real "anti-liberation force" is nothing but to make a mockery of our Liberation War itself. It is nothing but an attempt to delegitimize the values of our freedom struggle. Why again this tendency to compare the AL's present day failings with its role in 1971? There are many examples of political parties that played a crucial role in a country's freedom struggle but later became corrupt and anti-national (the Muslim League being a good example). But their historic role was never questioned.

So when the BNP chief says that "Awami League calls Jamaat anti-liberation, but it is AL which is the real anti-liberation force", she is turning history on its head and exonerating the Jamaat for opposing the birth of Bangladesh and collaborating with the Pakistani army in killing and destroying those who were fighting for our independence.

Why do our leaders feel that they can say just about anything they like and we, the people, will believe them? Why do they say things that are not factual? Why do they twist events in ways that are totally false? Why do they never admit that they can make a mistake? Why is it always that the other side is in the wrong? Why cannot they ever see anything positive in their opponents? Why cannot they accept criticism with grace?

It is because our leaders think that we, the people, are all idiots. We cannot judge for ourselves, so whatever they say they expect us to believe. Our leaders think that we have no memory, so they say today the very opposite of what they stood for yesterday, and still expect us to follow them.

Maybe they are right -- maybe we are idiots. Otherwise how can we flock to their meetings in the hundreds of thousands just to have them insult our intelligence, which they do every single time?

When did we last hear a speech that we would recommend to our children to study and learn from, a speech that we would like to find in the history books?

But there is no question that the AL is manipulating history for its own benefit. A one party state is what Hasina and cahoots intend. And, with Indian backing.

Things like trying to ban Jamaat, linking Tarique to the August grenade attack, etc are all just attempts to eliminate all opposition before them.

Seems just like what her father tried to achieve.

Can't say that the BNP are the white knights to the rescue. It's almost like a 'no-go' situation for Bangladeshis.

Before that he was a preacher!

During 1971 he worked as a servant/কর্মচারী in a business group known as 5 tahbil.

5 tahbil owners were Rajakars. Their leader was an awamileague politician who was chairman in phirojpur by that time.....

পিরোজপুরে ঐতিহ্যবাহী নৌ-বন্দরের নাম পাড়েরহাট। জেলার জিয়ানগর থানায় অবস্থিত। একাত্তরে মুক্তিযুদ্ধের সময় পিরোজপুর ও আশপাশ এলাকার মধ্যে এটিই ছিল সবচেয়ে বড় নৌবন্দর ও ব্যবসায়িক কেন্দ্র। এ নৌ-বন্দর থেকে ওই এলাকার নিত্যপণ্য সরবরাহ হতো। একাত্তরে স্বাধীনতা যুদ্ধ শুরুর পর মে মাসে পাক সেনারা পিরোজপুরে প্রবেশ করে। তারা পাড়েরহাটের হিন্দু সম্প্রদায়ের দোকানপাটে আগুন লাগিয়ে পুড়িয়ে দেয়। তখন স্থানীয় রাজাকাররা পাক সেনাদের কাছে আকুতি জানিয়ে পালের দোকান নামে খ্যাত নারায়ণ শাহ নামের এক হিন্দু ব্যবসায়ীর দোকান আগুনের হাত থেকে রক্ষা করেন। পরে ওই দোকানটি দখল করে ব্যবসা শুরু করেন ৫ জন। প্রথমে তারা ৫ জন মিলে গ্রুপ গঠন করেন। এ ব্যবসা গ্রুপের নাম দেয়া হয় পাঁচ তহবিল। ওই পাঁচজন হলেন- দানেশ মোল্লা, মাওলানা মোসলেম উদ্দিন, আবদুল করিম, আবদুল মালেক শিকদার ও মোজাহার মল্লিক। এই পাঁচজনের মধ্যে প্রথম চারজনই পাক বাহিনীর দোসর শান্তি কমিটির নেতা অর্থাত্ রাজাকার ছিলেন। সর্বশেষ ব্যক্তি মোজাহার মল্লিক স্থানীয় আওয়ামী লীগ নেতা ও বিশিষ্ট ব্যবসায়ী ছিলেন। পাঁচ তহবিলের ব্যবসায়ীদের মধ্যে একজন ছাড়া বাকিরা মারা গেছেন। বেঁচে থাকা ব্যক্তি হলেন মাওলানা মোসলেম উদ্দীন। বর্তমানে তিনি আওয়ামী লীগের সহযোগী সংগঠন ওলামা লীগের সঙ্গে সম্পৃক্ত। স্বাধীনতা যুদ্ধের সময় পাড়েরহাট বন্দরসহ আশপাশ এলাকা নিয়ে গঠিত ৭নং শঙ্করপাশা ইউনিয়নের শান্তি কমিটির সেক্রেটারি ছিলেন মাওলানা মোসলেম উদ্দিন। শান্তি কমিটির সভাপতি ছিলেন একরাম খলিফা। তিনি পিরোজপুর-১ আসনের বর্তমান আওয়ামী লীগ দলীয় এমপি একেএমএ আউয়ালের বাবা।
পাড়েরহাটের সেই পাঁচ তহবিল মূলত গড়ে ওঠে ব্যবসায়ী মোজাহার মল্লিককে কেন্দ্র করে। তত্কালীন সময়ে তিনি ছিলেন পিরোজপুরের অন্যতম ধনাঢ্য ব্যক্তি। আওয়ামী লীগের রাজনীতি সম্পৃক্ততা ও প্রচুর অর্থের মালিক হওয়ার সুবাদে মোজাহার মল্লিক প্রভাবশালী ব্যক্তি ছিলেন। পাক সেনারা পিরোজপুরে প্রবেশের পর ধনাঢ্য ব্যবসায়ী মোজাহার মল্লিককে আটক করে নিয়ে যায়। তখন শান্তি কমিটির সভাপতি একরাম খলিফা, মাওলানা মোসলেম উদ্দিনসহ অন্য রাজাকাররা দেন-দরবার করে তাকে পাক বাহিনীর কাছ থেকে ছাড়িয়ে আনেন। এর প্রতিদান পেতে শান্তি কমিটির ওই চারজন মিলে (রাজাকা&#2480 মোজাহার মল্লিককে যৌথভাবে ব্যবসার প্রস্তাব দেন। যুদ্ধকবলিত পিরোজপুরে গড়ে ওঠে ওই পাঁচজনের যৌথ ব্যবসা গ্রুপ পাঁচ তহবিল। ওই তহবিলে শুরু হয় বাণিজ্য। ব্যবসা পদ্ধতি ভালো জানা ও মোটা অঙ্কের টাকা বিনিয়োগ করায় দোকান পরিচালনার মূল দায়িত্ব পড়ে মোজাহার মল্লিকের ওপর। তিনি ব্যবসা পরিচালনার স্বার্থে তারই ছোট ভায়রা মাওলানা (তখন মৌলভ&#2496 দেলাওয়ার হোসাইন সাঈদীকে বেতনভুক্ত কর্মচারী হিসেবে নিয়োগ দেন। এমনকি পাড়েরহাট বন্দর সংলগ্ন তার একটি বাসায় মাওলানা সাঈদীকে ভাড়া হিসেবে থাকার সুযোগ দেন। মাওলানা সাঈদী ছিলেন খুব দরিদ্র। তখন তার সংসার চালানোর মতো অবস্থা ছিল না। মুক্তিযুদ্ধের সময় ওয়াজ-মাহফিল বন্ধ হয়ে যাওয়ায় জীবিকার তাগিদে ওই দোকানে চাকরি শুরু করেন সাঈদী। তার কাজ ছিল চাঁদপুরসহ দেশের বিভিন্ন স্থান থেকে মালামাল আনা-নেয়া করা ও হিসাব রাখা। পরে তিনি স্থানীয় বাসিন্দা মৌলভী খলিলুর রহমানের সঙ্গে একটি দোকান দেন। ওই দোকানে ম্যাচ, কেরোসিনসহ নিত্যপণ্য বিক্রি হতো। সরেজমিন পিরোজপুর সদর, জিয়ানগর, পাড়েরহাট বন্দরসহ বিভিন্ন এলাকা পরিদর্শন, স্থানীয় একাধিক মুক্তিযোদ্ধা ও পাঁচ তহবিলের বেঁচে থাকা একমাত্র সদস্য মাওলানা মোসলেম উদ্দিনের সঙ্গে আলাপ করে একাত্তরের পাঁচ তহবিল গ্রুপের ব্যবসার এই কাহিনী জানা গেছে। স্থানীয় কয়েকজন মুক্তিযোদ্ধা ও গণ্যমান্য ব্যক্তিদের অনুরোধে প্রকৃত সত্য ঘটনার খোঁজে আমার দেশ-এর পক্ষ থেকে দীর্ঘ অনুসন্ধান চালানো হয়। একাধিক মুক্তিযোদ্ধা ও রাজাকারের সাক্ষাত্কার ও বক্তব্য রেকর্ড করা হয়। এতে বেরিয়ে আসে আরও চাঞ্চল্যকর তথ্য। অনুসন্ধানে মুক্তিযুদ্ধে পাক বাহিনীকে সহযোগিতাকারী অনেক রাজাকারের নাম বেরিয়ে এসেছে, যারা বর্তমানে আওয়ামী লীগসহ বিভিন্ন রাজনৈতিক দলের সঙ্গে সম্পৃক্ত।
আমার দেশকে দেয়া সাক্ষাত্কারে তারা আরও জানান, মুক্তিযুদ্ধের সময় দেলাওয়ার হোসাইন সাঈদী একজন সামান্য আয়ের মানুষ ছিলেন। যুদ্ধের আগে খুলনা, যশোরসহ বিভিন্ন স্থানে ওয়াজ-মহফিল করে ও বই লিখে বিক্রি করে সংসার চালাতেন। যুদ্ধ শুরুর পর পিরোজপুরে চলে আসেন তিনি। যুদ্ধকালে ও যুদ্ধপরবর্তী কয়েক মাস সেখানেই সপরিবারে অবস্থান করেন। যুদ্ধের পক্ষে বা বিপক্ষে তার কোনো ভূমিকা রাখার মতো অবস্থানও ছিল না। ওই সময়ে কোনো রাজনৈতিক দলের সঙ্গে ছিলেন না। মানবতা বিরোধী কোনো অপরাধ করতে দেখেননি তারা। পাক বাহিনীকে সাঈদী কোনো ধরনের সহযোগিতা করেননি বলেও জানান তারা। তাদের অভিযোগ, জামায়াতে ইসলামী সরকারবিরোধী অবস্থানে থাকায় রাজনৈতিক রোষানলে পড়েছেন মাওলানা সাঈদী।
মুক্তিযোদ্ধাদের দেখা পাঁচ তহবিল : পাঁচ তহবিলের ব্যবসার রহস্য জানার জন্য সরেজমিন পিরোজপুরে গিয়ে আমরা বেশ কয়েকজন মুক্তিযোদ্ধার মুখোমুখি হই। মুক্তিযোদ্ধাদের সঙ্গে কথা বলে ও অনুসন্ধানে জানা গেছে, পাক বাহিনী পিরোজপুরে ঢোকার আগ থেকেই হিন্দু সম্প্রদায়ের মানুষ এলাকা ছেড়ে পালিয়ে যেতে শুরু করেন। পিরোজপুরের পাড়েরহাটসহ প্রায় সব এলাকায় দেখা দেয় বিশৃঙ্খলা। পাড়েরহাটে বন্দরের দোকানগুলোতে ব্যাপক লুট হয়। পাক আর্মিরা হিন্দুদের দোকানে অগ্নিসংযোগের নির্দেশ দেয়। পাক বাহিনীর দোসর শান্তি কমিটির ৪ জন পালের দোকান দখল করে পাঁচ তহবিল গঠন করেন। পাঁচ তহবিল প্রসঙ্গে পিরোজপুরের সাবেক সংসদ সদস্য, মুক্তিযোদ্ধা সংগঠক ও মুক্তিযুদ্ধের নবম সেক্টরের পিরোজপুর মহকুমার সিকিউরিটি ইনচার্জের দায়িত্ব পালনকারী গাজী নুরুজ্জামান বাবুলের কাছে জানতে চাওয়া হলে তিনি বলেন, মুক্তিযুদ্ধ শুরু হওয়ার অনেক আগ থেকেই আওয়ামী লীগ নেতা মোজাহার মল্লিক ওই এলাকার প্রতিষ্ঠিত ব্যবসায়ী ছিলেন। পাকবাহিনী মোজাহার মল্লিককে ধরে নিয়ে গেলে শান্তি কমিটির সদস্যরা সমঝোতা করে তাকে ছাড়িয়ে নিয়ে আসে। পরে মোজাহার মল্লিকের টাকায় পাড়েরহাটে এক হিন্দুর দোকানে শান্তি কমিটির চার সদস্য দানেশ মোল্লা, মাওলানা মোসলেম উদ্দিন, আবদুল করিম ও আবদুল মালেক শিকদার যৌথভাবে ব্যবসা শুরু করেন। যুদ্ধের সময় পাড়েরহাট ছিল পিরোজপুরসহ আশপাশের এলাকার সবচেয়ে বড় ব্যবসায় কেন্দ্র। ওই ব্যবসা প্রতিষ্ঠানকে পাঁচ তহবিল বলা হয়। আমার জানা মতে, যুদ্ধের সময় আর্থিক অনটনে থাকায় দেলাওয়ার হোসাইন সাঈদী ওই ব্যবসা প্রতিষ্ঠানের ভায়রা মোজাহার মল্লিকের অংশ দেখাশোনার চাকরি নেন। জীবিকার তাগিদে সাঈদী চাঁদপুরসহ বিভিন্ন স্থান থেকে পাড়েরহাট বন্দরে মাল আনা-নেয়া করতেন। সামান্য আয়ের মানুষ থাকায় তখন সাঈদী সামাজিকভাবে প্রতিষ্ঠিত কোনো ব্যক্তি ছিলেন না। যুদ্ধের সময় প্রভাব খাটানোর মতো কোনো শক্তি বা সামর্থ্য ছিল না তার। তখন তিনি আলোচনায় আসার মতো ব্যক্তিও ছিলেন না। এমনকি আমরা তখন তার নামও শুনিনি। ১৯৮৫ সাল থেকে একজন ভালো বক্তা হিসেবে আমি তাকে চিনেছি। তিনি আরও বলেন, যুদ্ধ শেষ হওয়ার পর রাজাকারদের বেশিরভাগই গ্রেফতার হয়। এদের অনেককে তখন মেরে ফেলা হয়। পাড়েরহাট বা জিয়া নগরের কোথাও সাঈদী যুদ্ধের বিরোধী অবস্থান নিলে তখনই তাকে গ্রেফতার বা মেরে ফেলা হতো। পাক বাহিনীর সহায়তাকারী অনেকেই ওই যাত্রায় রক্ষা পেয়েছিলেন—এমন প্রশ্নের জবাবে গাজী নুরুজ্জামান বাবুল বলেন, রাজাকারদের মধ্যে যাদের সন্তানরা মুক্তিযুদ্ধে অংশ নিয়েছিল তাদের আটক করা হয়নি। ১৯৭১ সালে সাঈদী পাড়েরহাট বন্দরে অবস্থান করেছিলেন।
মুক্তিযুদ্ধে সরাসরি অংশ নেন পাড়েরহাটের বাসিন্দা সালাম তালুকদার। জিয়ানগর উপজেলা আওয়ামী লীগের বর্তমান সহ-সভাপতি তিনি। এখনও পাড়েরহাট বন্দরে সপরিবারে থাকেন সালাম তালুকদার। পাঁচ তহবিল প্রসঙ্গে জানতে চাওয়া হলে তিনি বলেন, নারায়ণ শাহ’র দোকানে পাঁচজন মিলে ব্যবসা করতেন। সেটাকেই পাঁচ তহবিল বলা হতো। তিনি আরও বলেন, দেলাওয়ার হোসাইন সাঈদী পাড়েরহাট বন্দরে সুলতান গাজীর দোকানে মৌলভী খলিলুর রহমানের সঙ্গে যৌথভাবে ব্যবসা করতেন, বর্তমানে সেটি একটি হোটেল। তাকে লুটতরাজ বা মানবতা বিরোধী অপরাধ করতে দেখিনি এবং যুদ্ধের পরও শুনিনি। স্বাধীনতা পরবর্তী সময়েও সাঈদী পাড়েরহাটে ছিলেন। তিনি অপরাধ করলে তখনই মুক্তিযোদ্ধারা তাকে আটক করত। একই বন্দরের আরেক স্থায়ী বাসিন্দা ও ব্যবসায়ী এবং ১৯৭১ সালের মুক্তিযোদ্ধা মোকাররম হোসেন কবীর বলেন, তখন দেলাওয়ার হোসাঈন সাঈদী ও মৌলভী খলিলুর রহমান যৌথভাবে ছোট দোকানে ব্যবসা করতেন। ওই দোকানে কেরোসিন তেল, ম্যাচসহ নিত্যপণ্য বিক্রি হতো। ওই সময়ে সাঈদী অত্যন্ত গরিব মানুষ ছিলেন। তার বিরুদ্ধে আনা অভিযোগ সম্পর্কে তিনি বলেন, যুদ্ধের পরই বহু রাজাকারকে আটক করা হয়েছে, অনেককে মেরে ফেলা হয়েছে। অপরাধ করলে তখনই সাঈদীকে গ্রেফতার করা হতো। যুদ্ধের পর তিনি পাড়েরহাট বন্দরে থাকতে পারতেন না।
একজন রাজাকারের সাক্ষাত্কার : ১৯৭১ সালের মহান মুক্তিযুদ্ধে পাক বাহিনীকে সমর্থনকারী রাজাকার বাহিনী ‘শান্তি কমিটির’ অন্যতম নেতা ছিলেন মাওলানা মোসলেম উদ্দিন। তিনি ৭নং শঙ্করপাশা ইউনিয়নের সেক্রেটারি ছিলেন। তখন শান্তি কমিটির সভাপতি ছিলেন একরাম খলিফা। তিনি আওয়ামী লীগের স্থানীয় বর্তমান এমপি একেএমএ আউয়ালের বাবা। পাঁচ তহবিলের বেঁচে থাকা একমাত্র সদস্য মাওলানা মোসলেম উদ্দিন আমার দেশকে দেয়া সাক্ষাত্কারে পিরোজপুরে মুক্তিযুদ্ধে কি হয়েছিল তার বিশদ বর্ণনা দিয়েছেন। ঢাকা রেসিডেন্সিয়াল স্কুলের এক সময়ের ধর্মীয় শিক্ষক মোসলেম উদ্দীন জানান, তখনকার শান্তি কমিটির সভাপতি ও বর্তমান আওয়ামী লীগ এমপি আউয়ালের বাবা একরাম খলিফা নিরাপত্তার জন্য তাকে শান্তি কমিটিতে যোগ দেয়ার পরামর্শ দেন। তার কথামতো তিনি শান্তি কমিটিতে যোগ দেন। পাক সেনাদের সঙ্গে একরাম খলিফাসহ আমরা কয়েকজন লিয়াজোঁ করতাম। তবে তিনি হত্যা-ধর্ষণের মতো কোনো অন্যায় করেননি বলে দাবি করেন। মোসলেম মাওলানা বলেন, পাক বাহিনী পাড়েরহাট বন্দরে এসে হিন্দুদের দোকানে আগুন দিতে শুরু করে। একরাম খলিফাসহ আমরা কয়েকজন পাক সুবেদারের কাছে গিয়ে বলি, দোকানগুলোর মালিক মুসলিম লীগের। তারা মুসলমান। এসব দোকানে আগুন দিলে মুসলমানরা ক্ষতিগ্রস্ত হবে। ওই সময়ে বন্দরে ব্যাপক লুটপাট হয়। আওয়ামী লীগ, মুসলিম লীগের অনেক নেতা লুটে অংশ নিয়েছিল। ৫ তহবিল সম্পর্কে তিনি বলেন, নারায়ণ শাহ’র লুট হওয়া দোকানে মোজাহার মল্লিকসহ ৫ জন ম্যাচ, কেরোসিনসহ নিত্যপণ্যের ব্যবসা করছিল। তারা সবাই ধনাঢ্য ব্যক্তি। আমার অত টাকা-পয়সা ছিল না। ওই ব্যবসার সঙ্গে জড়িত ছিলাম না। তখন মৌলভী দেলাওয়ার হোসাইন সাঈদী ও খলিল মৌলভী আলাদা তেল, ম্যাচ, লবণের ব্যবসা করতেন। সাঈদীর যুদ্ধাপরাধ সম্পর্কে জানতে চাওয়া হলে তিনি বলেন, তখন আমি তাকে চিনতাম। তিনি শান্তি কমিটিতে ছিলেন না। ওই সময়ে সাঈদীকে কোনো অপরাধ করতেও দেখিনি, শুনিনি বা প্রমাণ পাইনি। সাঈদীর বিচার প্রসঙ্গে মোসলেম মাওলানা বলেন, কাগজের ফুলে কখনও ঘ্রাণ থাকে না, সত্য কখনও গোপন থাকে না। সাঈদীর বিরুদ্ধে যে অভিযোগ আনা হয়েছে তা কখনও প্রমাণ করতে পারবে না।
তদন্ত কর্মকর্তার বক্তব্য : একাত্তরের মানবতাবিরোধী অপরাধের তদন্ত করতে পিরোজপুরে একাধিকবার যান তদন্ত দলের প্রধান এসপি হেলাল উদ্দিন। তদন্তকারী কর্মকর্তা এসপি হেলাল উদ্দিনের কাছে পাঁচ তহবিল সম্পর্কে জানতে চাওয়া হলে তিনি বলেন, একাত্তরে পাড়েরহাট বন্দরে পাঁচজন মিলিতভাবে এ তহবিল গঠন করেছিল। একটি বিল্ডিংয়ের গোডাউনে ওই তহবিল ছিল। সেখানে তারা লুট করা মালামাল ভাগ-বাটোয়ারা করত এবং জনসাধারণের কাছে বিক্রি করত। পাঁচজনের মধ্যে চারজন মারা গেছেন। একজন বেঁচে আছেন। তিনি হলেন, দেলাওয়ার হোসাইন সাঈদী। কিন্তু আমার দেশ-এর অনুসন্ধানে জানা গেছে, পাঁচ তহবিলের একজন বেঁচে আছেন, যার নাম মাওলানা মোসলেম উদ্দিন। মাওলানা সাঈদী ছিলেন ওই ব্যবসায়ী গ্রুপের দোকানের একজন কর্মচারী মাত্র। এ বিষয়ে জানতে চাওয়া হলে তিনি বলেন, না, না। মোসলেম মাওলানা সম্ভবত ছিল না। কাগজ না দেখে বলতে পারব না। রাজাকার একরাম খলিফা সম্পর্কে জানতে চাওয়া হলে তিনি বলেন, আমি এ বিষয়ে বলতে পারব না। আমাদের টার্গেট ছিল শুধু মাওলানা সাঈদী। কখনও ওই নাম আলোচনায় আসেনি। তবে কখনও আলোচনায় এলে আমরা তদন্ত করব।
জেলা পরিষদের বইতে যা বলা হয়েছে : জেলা পরিষদের তত্ত্বাবধানে প্রণীত ‘পিরোজপুর জেলার ইতিহাস’ গ্রন্থে ১৯৭১ সালে পিরোজপুরের মুক্তিযুদ্ধের ইতিহাস বর্ণনা করা হয়েছে। জেলা প্রশাসনের তত্ত্বাবধানে মুক্তিযুদ্ধের স্থানীয় কমান্ডার, সাংবাদিক, প্রশাসনের কর্মকর্তারা ও স্থানীয় বিভিন্ন পেশার মানুষ বইটি প্রণয়ন ও সম্পাদনা করেছেন। এতে পিরোজপুরের সার্বিক ইতিহাস লেখা রয়েছে। বইয়ে মুক্তিযুদ্ধের বিবরণে উল্লেখ করা হয়েছে— ১৯৭১ সালের ৪ মে পিরোজপুরে প্রথম পাকবাহিনী প্রবেশ করে। হুলারহাট থেকে শহরের প্রবেশপথে তারা মাছিমপুর আর কৃষ্ণনগর গ্রামে শুরু করে হত্যাযজ্ঞ। স্থানীয় রাজাকারদের সহায়তায় হিন্দু আর স্বাধীনতার পক্ষের মুসলমানদের বাড়িঘরে দেয়া হয় আগুন, হত্যা করা হয় বহু লোক।....১৯৭১ সালের ৮ ডিসেম্বর দুপুর ১২টায় তত্কালীন পিরোজপুর মহকুমা শহর শত্রুমুক্ত হয় এবং সমাপ্তি ঘটে দীর্ঘ ৯ মাসের সশস্ত্র যুদ্ধের।’ এ বইতে মুক্তিযুদ্ধের সময় সংঘটিত লোমহর্ষক ঘটনা, যুদ্ধের পক্ষ ও বিপক্ষের ব্যক্তিদের ভূমিকা এবং নামের তালিকা দেয়া হয়েছে। কিন্তু বইয়ের কোথাও পাঁচ তহবিল সম্পর্কে লেখা হয়নি। এমনকি রাজাকারদের সঙ্গে মাওলানা দেলাওয়ার হোসাইন সাঈদীর সম্পৃক্ততার কথা উল্লেখ নেই। বরং তাকে একজন খ্যাতিমান বক্তা, রাজনৈতিক নেতা ও দুই বারের সংসদ সদস্য হিসেবে উল্লেখ করা হয়েছে।
স্থানীয় আওয়ামী লীগের এমপি আউয়াল যা বললেন : একাত্তরে মুক্তিযুদ্ধকালে পিরোজপুরের শান্তি কমিটির সভাপতি একরাম খলিফার ছেলে বর্তমান আওয়ামী লীগের এমপি একেএমএ আউয়াল। তিনি দাবি করেন, তরুণ অফিসার হিসেবে একাত্তরে মুক্তিযুদ্ধে অংশ নেন। ২০০৮ সালের নির্বাচনে দুইবারের এমপি দেলাওয়ার হোসাইন সাঈদীকে হারিয়ে প্রথমবারের মতো তিনি এমপি হয়েছেন। প্রতিপক্ষকে ঘায়েল করতে সাঈদীর বিরুদ্ধে যুদ্ধাপরাধ মামলা দায়েরের নেপথ্যে তার ভূমিকা থাকার অভিযোগ পাওয়া গেছে। এসব বিষয়ে জানতে চাওয়া হলে তিনি বলেন, স্বাধীনতা যুদ্ধের সময় আমি সুন্দরবন অঞ্চলে ছিলাম। ওই সময়ে পাড়েরহাট বন্দরে কী হয়েছিল, সাঈদী সাহেব কী করেছেন তা দেখিনি। তবে শোনা যায়, যুদ্ধের সময় তিনি দোকান দখল, অগ্নিসংযোগ ও হত্যার সঙ্গে জড়িত ছিলেন। তিনি আরও বলেন, তাত্ক্ষণিকভাবে এসব খবর শুনিনি, পরে শুনেছি। সাঈদীর বিরুদ্ধে মামলাকারীদের পুরস্কৃত করা প্রসঙ্গে জানতে চাওয়া হলে তিনি বলেন, এ মামলায় আমার কোনো ভূমিকা নেই। তার বাবা একরাম খলিফা শান্তি কমিটির সভাপতি ছিলেন—এমন তথ্য প্রসঙ্গে জানতে চাওয়া হলে উত্তেজিত হয়ে ওঠেন আউয়াল এমপি। তিনি বলেন, আমার বাবা ইউনিয়ন পরিষদের চেয়ারম্যান ছিলেন—এটাই জানতাম। তিনি শান্তি কমিটির সভাপতি থাকার কথা এই প্রথম শুনলাম। এর আগে কখনও শুনিনি।

The article doesn't say that Ziaur Rahman was a Razakar. To say so would be an insult.

Whatever is going on in Hasina's head are nothing but delusions. The woman has been living in a bubble for the past 40 years! See, she places more value on the loyalty of her party members than merit. And when that happens, any party is ultimately bound to fail, especially in Bangladesh's climate.

I still really do question Jamaat's political stance. I think they should clarify any confusions or misunderstandings. There is really no use of chasing ghosts of the past. And this applies to the Awami League as well. What are their objectives? What is their strategy? Seems like as if there is no broad consensus for Jamaat.

And as far as Mr. Saydee goes, yes he has been politically active since the 80s. But then, this begs the question: why didn't the Awami League take any action against him or Jamaat or set up a war crimes trail when it was in power back in the 90's? There's something extremely fishy going on there.

The AL's only strategy is to wipe out all opposition before it and set up a one-party state. This is what seems to be going on.
