Nuclear power plant deal signed with Russia

The reactor will not be under russian control but will be monitored. BD is a signatory of NTP which they have ratified too. Which means.... they have committed to not follow the nuclear path. That is the reason they can get a reactor from Russia.

This will be light water reactor which uses U238 to produce electricity. Created a bomb level refinement of uranium requires very sophisticated piece of technology which is highly regulated. Ever since AQ Mart closed, you cannot find this tech easily :)

So building a bomb is out of the question...

Isn't BD NPT ratified nation? So how can you pursue nuke without being pariah state like North Korea.

This thread is heading multiple direction i. possibilities of acquiring nuclear weapon
ii. safety and logic of nuclear power in the time of fukushima tragedy
iii. possibilities of uranium in Bangladesh

I. I think buying some nuclear bomb with delivery system such as long range ballistic missile through/from friendly countries is more logical then building facility and expertise as it will be very difficult and expensive
II. that was already 30 year old plant with relatively old deign but most probably we are getting latest on with more safety guaranty i think . but of course i my self is worried if that don't work what a horrible disaster can bring it to our country !
III. We have found some expensive mineral in our cox bazaar sea beach a Australian company already extract as test though not sure about uranium . but the main point is whether we have uranium or not that does not matter if our only goal is to produce electricity because we don't have nay enrichment facility we are going to get it from either Russia or from any other NSG country

And pray who exactly will give you a long range missile with a bomb with it?

Countries typically don't export such powerful weapon systems under International Law. Although, some transfers in technology is possible, but there will be strings attached.

Bottom line: We have develop much of such systems ourselves.

There has been a lot of misreporting over the Fukushima disaster. Coupled with environmentalist propaganda.

Santos is an oil company, and already prospecting in Bangladesh.
Santos - Our Activities - Bangladesh

The issue of finding uranium reserves is a slightly different matter.

I just thunk hypothetically we can try for of the self weapons because it will be expensive and time consuming to indigenously develop such weapon
Which system we develop ?

Its not important to get uranium for power generation and what we will do with it if we don't have the capacity to enrichment

Oh Boy dont worry Kalam Black Mart is still Open.Stop Trolling .......................

Its good for Bangladesh to have Nuclear reactor as they do need alot of electricity with the passing years.

I don't understand how come stating a world wide acknowledged fact that Mr Khan was exporting nuclear know how to anyone willing to pay good money is tantamount to trolling.

I simply mentioned that ever since Mr Khan's operation came to an end, this technology became increasingly difficult to achieve in a clandestine way.

Stating a fact is not inflammatory in any way. Plus, given how many ""facts"" about India and Indians get thrown around in this forum, I am not even scratching the surface.

Well, it is fine to hypothesize.

But if we look at is more deeply, we can reach to the conclusion.

With much of our skilled labor intending to go abroad, and most of those educated abroad not coming back to their country, Bangladesh isn't really going any where when it comes to technology development. And no, this trend is not going down. This is partly due to the lack of commitment from government and Bangladeshi companies (ever heard of the term shawdaukaur?).

I don't think we would be doing the enrichment part. The Russians will take care of all the technical stuff. Although, we can learn something from there. It can be helpful.

It is literally impossible for GoB to manage the whole thing by themselves. Hell, even bridges fall apart!
