Bhubaneswar: India, Monday, test fired its indigenously developed nuclear capable ballistic missile Prithvi-II off the Orissa coast, defence sources said.

The missile was blasted off from the Integrated Test Range at Chandipur, about 230 km from here. The medium-range missile, which can carry a pay-load of 500 kg, has a maximum range of 350 km.

India had successfully test fired its surface-to-surface ballistic missile Shourya from the same test base Saturday.

^^^
And funny thing is IA is looking to replace the old prithvi as their life is almost over and there's no way IA is going to induct Prithvi because its like a liability for our nuclear arsenal.

These tests would have been done to test various sub-systems, trajectory, guidance, software etc....... To be used in future and advanced missile platform.

come on they have tested pritvi more than 15 times..
test some thing new!

Russia tested Topol missiles more than 60 times before making them fully operational.

they must have done same with Topol m.

then you think testing prithvi more than 15 times is enough?

BTW awesome work DRDO

Yeah that's the only explanation. I also heard DRDO developed MIRV version but IA said no more Prithvi. So i think DRDO is using Prithvi as a test bed for future missiles as MIRV tech will be used in Agni 5 and may be in Agni 2 prime.

^^ that makes sense

prithvi's range is too short and its liquid propelled.

its good that IA said no to more prithvi's.

Why do you guys say pritvhi is a liability? I know it is short ranged, but don't we need missiles of all ranges?

its short ranged and liquid propelled. that's problem.

if it was short range solid fueled, no problem.

if it was long range liquid fueled , no problem.
