Farah Khan Ali needs a refresher course in French history, and fast. If that sounds too much, she should definitely make an acquaintance of Marie Antoinette, the French queen who solved the peasants' problem of having no bread to eat with this irrepressible line: "Let them eat cake".

Ali (not to be confused with Happy New Year director Farah Khan) has come up with a similar proposal regarding Bollywood actor Salman Khan's conviction in the 2002 hit-and-run case. The Bollywood actor was sentenced to five years on Wednesday in the case by a sessions court. His sentencing was suspended by the Bombay high court on Friday pending appeal.

So, how to make roads safe so that rich kids, and men, do not end up having to drive over people who sleep on road? Elementary, my dear Watson, says Ali. Just earmark a few roads, or bylanes, where they will sleep and where the likes of Salman Khan or Alistair Perrera will not be allowed to drive. The rich brats should not lose heart though. They can get drunk as a skunk and drive on all the pavements they want in the rest of the city.

This jewellery designer, sister to sometime-actor Zayed Khan and former sister-in-law of Hrithik Roshan landed herself in a Twitter sh*tstorm when she wrote, "The govt should be responsible for housing ppl. If no 1was sleeping on d road in any other country Salman wuld not have driven over anybody."

That was after Salman was sentenced to five years in jail for the 2002 hit-and-run case in which one man was killed and four injured. At pains to explain to outraged people on Twitter and off it that she was a responsible citizen of this country and just wanted bang for her tax buck, Ali tweeted and tweeted. And with every tweet, she got herself deeper into it. Here's a sample…

After offering unconditional apology for seeming to mock poor people, a chastened Ali started tweeting again on Friday. This time, she had the solution. Writing that she realized (finally!) that there are poor people who had nowhere to go, so we need to be more sympathetic to them.

Reaffirming her concernfor people who lose their lives to drunk drivers was genuine, she came up with the idea for earmarking lanes for them to sleep.

#Justasking Farah: So where all do you think drunk drivers should be allowed to drive?

Except that Marie Antoinette probably never did say that. This nut is in a class of her own.

Bollywood is about LOOKS only. Acting ability, intellect or even minimal common sense is a rarity.
