Yes, North Korea has many SS-N-6 missiles from USSR and in1994 they bought Golf-class sub from Russia ... after twenty years they just found a way to equip SS-N-6 on the Golf-class, or another PSed photos ...

The quality is suspect. Personally I wont take the new at face value until its confirmed by the USN, who is undoubtedly monitoring the situation.

In the period between 1974 and 1990 161 missiles were launched with a 93% success rate.

Russia / USSR R-27 Missile (NATO-SSN-6 Sawfly)

That seems to be safe and reliable. Slow, it might be, but it will not be dangerous.

The submarine in the photos doesn't look like a Golf Class though, does it? I'm not sure, not too familiar with Russian submarine designs. The tower may have been redesigned.

Well ... N.Korea Navy has 70+ subs although most r old built in 70s from USSR / China, and they can produce domestic sub ... before Kilo-class from Russia Vietnam Navy ever bought some mini-subs from North Korea.

Sources from the JMSDF --- say that most of these 'subs' from NORKOR are not even seaworthy , and most of them docked. Whatever subs that are active are so loud that they can be easily tracked by our ships. The subs that are seaworthy are only able to operate for several hours before returning to port due to limited funding and to preserve fuel.
