HIGHLIGHTS

  • Thackeray said he wants North Indians to prosper but they must question their leaders
  • He said UP has given so many PMs, but the condition is still so bad
  • He was speaking at an event organised by North Indians in Mumbai

Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray while addressing the North Indian community in Mumbai on Sunday said they do not have any self respect. Speaking in Hindi probably for the first time, he said North Indians should ask their ministers why employment wasn't being generated in their own states.

"You guys are facing such humiliation from so many states. You don't have any self respect. Why aren't leaders from your states being asked any questions?" Raj Thackeray said.

Thackeray is known for his hostility towards North Indians, especially those living in Mumbai, and spreading fear among them.

He said he was not there to give any clarifications for the past agitations of his party, but to make his argument in Hindi so that it would reach a wider audience.

"States such as Uttar Pradesh have given so many prime ministers, including current Prime Minister Narendra Modi (who is an MP from Varanasi). None of you ask them (the leaders), why the state is lagging behind in industrialisation and why there are no jobs there," Thackeray said.

He was speaking at an event organised by the Uttar Bhartiya Maha Panchayat, an organisation of the North Indian community in Mumbai.

"Most of the migration to Mumbai is from UP, Bihar, Jharkhand and Bangladesh. All I want is if people are coming to Maharashtra in search of livelihood, they should respect the local language and culture.

Speaking about his stand on North Indians in the past, Thackery said he wants them to prosper but they must ask their leaders why they have to move out of their states to search for jobs in the first place.

"When I take a stand which leads to conflict with people from UP and Bihar, everyone comes down heavily on me. But after the recent attacks on Bihari people in Gujarat, nobody questioned the ruling party (BJP) or the prime minister (whose home state is Gujarat)," he said.

"I want these poor states to prosper as well. But instead of asking questions to their leaders, most of them prefer to rush to Mumbai. The burden on the city's infrastructure is increasing," the MNS chief said.

"A total of 48 trains come to Maharashtra and empty trains return. Any city or state has a capacity beyond which it can't accept more people. What will happen to the people living in Maharashtra? The condition is very bad," he said.

"I understand you people do not have jobs. But understand the condition of people in Maharashtra. They too don't have jobs and all of them are educated."

His speech got North Indians running with tail between their legs.

If the state's 90 pc revenue is being siphoned off to North India, how can the state government help farmers.

I sometimes feel sorry for Uttar Pradesh and Bihar(including Jharkhand)..with the gap widening between UP,Bihar and other states, the people from those states(UP n bihar) are increasingly facing insults in other states...We have some labours in our town who are from bihar(Jharkhand) but when asked they told me they were from Maharashtra(I knew they were lying by their looks and their language)...as raj thackeray said people of these states don't have self respect..they should reform themselves and hold education and development as priorities rather than caste ...You know Madhya Pradesh was in the same league of UP and bihar once...somehow ,now nobody includes MP when they talk of Bimaru states

Marathis are lazy .... in Pune 90% small businesses are owned by Marwaris and they really work hard ..... Raj Thakrey was reduced to one seat and this time he even mange to lose that one too , Biharis work really hard and make their living and its the mismanagement of the centre and state govts of those states which has caused the imbalance
