No one can dictate Pakistan anymore: Haroon

NEW YORK - Pakistan’s permanent representative at the United Nations Abdullah Haroon has said that Pakistan is not isolated internationally and no one can dictate terms to it.

In an interview with Voice of America (VOA) on Monday, Haroon said Pakistan was able to take a position and say no to what is not in the interest of the country.

He said there was a time when Pakistan was told to do certain things, but now the country was capable of negotiating and take decisions on its own. “Now we would say that it is better and this approach be followed,” he said.

Replying to a question, he said Pakistan’s election as a non-permanent member of UN Security Council was a big success at the international level. He said India not only voted for Pakistan but also lobbied with other countries in Pakistan’s favour.

Haroon said that for the last three years, both Pakistan and India were working to improve their relations and hoped for the success of the dialogue process.

Pakistan reaffirms commitment to UN charter: On the 66th anniversary of the establishment of the United Nations, Pakistan has reaffirmed its commitment to the principles and ideals enshrined in the UN Charter.

“Pakistan joins 193 member states of the United Nations in reiterating the importance and validity of this global forum and in paying homage to its role over decades in promoting world peace, stability and prosperity,” said a foreign office statement issued here on Monday.

It said, “Pakistan renews its pledge to continue to play an active role for the realisation of the vision of a peaceful and stable world which the UN symbolises.”

Pakistan should return this favour by voting for us in bid for permanent membership in UNSCO.

No one can dictate Pakistan anymore?
Many pakistani member support dictator over democracy here.

why is that all the threads get into a mess by provocation from members of each side.

Of Course Congrats to the people of Pakistan and its government.
Some indian member said that Pakistan should return the favour by voting for us in the permanent council. I say that is bull crap.
The question of supporting us for permanent council is the government of Pakistans decession to make and if you feel that the relationship is good and we can have peace you can vote for us or even lobby for us. its your call.

for the indian members its not good or morally correct to demand pakistan to support us for the permanent seat in the security council just because we voted and lobbied for them

Oh! Thanks India for voting for us within the UNSC non-permanent seat. Thanks a lot we will pay it back in the same fashion don't worry about that. At least U guyz now know that its within our mutual interest to promote peace and friendly relationship between us. Very good step from Indian side....hope it will go forward....:smokin:

^^^^^^^

If whatever the article said is true then its great...a very good news for pakistan...one should have an independent foreign policy....However not sure what has changed on the ground that Pakistan can now suddenly become immune to any dictation...either pakistan was always like that(not taking dictation) or something ground breaking has to happen to get out of such a mess, no???

It's interesting that the self-professed logicians aka bharatis can't see the obvious contradiction in what they say. US controls Pakistan. But oops, Pakistan supports Taliban, Haqqani, all terrorist groups in Afghanistan, is involved in terrorism in Afghanistan and so on. Get the head out of the sand you simpletons.

I believe this was India 'returning the favor' of Pakistan supporting India's bid to become a non-permanent member of the UNSC - if needed, we could do so again for India, but I see no reason to call for Pakistani support for an Indian permanent membership on the basis of Indian support for this seat.

You are correct...both are different ball game..
