Dhaka, June 2 (bdnews24.com) —The Human Rights Commission chairman has said it would be the violation of international laws if the indigenous people are not recognised constitutionally.

"It'll be a clear violation of the international laws if we don't implement the international statutes that we've signed. Peace in the hills won't sustain this way," he said on Thursday.

His remarks came in the wake of government's 'denial' in recognising the country's indigenous people constitutionally.

Addressing a meeting at the National Press Club, he suggested that the mindset of both the state and the administration needed to be changed for the development of those people.

The discussion, titled 'Constitutional Recognition of the Indigenous: Land and Forest Rights', was arranged by a non-government organisation, Research and Development Collective (RDC).

The Bangladesh first secretary to the UN last week said the country had no indigenous population, but minorities.

At the 10th session of UN Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues (UNPFII) in New York, Iqbal Ahmed shrugged off the allegation of dilly-dallying in executing the 1997 peace accord.

Mizanur said the 'collective ownership' issue was needed to be incorporated in the constitution to provide indigenous people the right to land and forests.

Ekatturer Ghatak Dalal Nirmul Committee president Shahriar Kabir also echoed Mizanur's sentiment.

He demanded that the government recognise the indigenous people's right to study in their own language constitutionally.......

The Bangladeshis are very concerned people of their rights and what is due to them.

The posts would also indicate their enthusiastic approach.

It is therefore surprising that they demand that everyone treats them fairly and all that and yet they do not see the dirty linen within or do anything about it.

It is no good blaming any Political Party for the neglect.

Both the Parties have been in power and so both are at fault.

How come our BD members do not remember of the adage - Doctor, Heal Thyself, when they piously pontificate that the world is against them or else they would be worldbeaters!

It is surprising that any important issue finds no BD poster explaining as to why the Indigenous people are not recognised?

I presume because Bangladesh does not recognise their own indigenous people, Myanmar follow suit in not recognising the Muslim RohingyaS in Myanmar.

Likewise, the Biharis who were against Liberation are neglected even after so many years and with changes of Govts to include martial law.

In short, Bangladesh does not care for the indigenous people or the Biharis.

Do you know what indegenous means??? If we declare a particular group indegenous then that will make the rest of us migrant..

The question is whether we are migrant or not.?????

Biharis were given citizenship, Govt is building huge aparment complexes to rehabilitate them.

Lame excuse.

The Adivasis are indigenous Indians.

But does not make me a foreigner in India?

Do read about migrations the world over in history.

The youtube stuff on Bihari camps showed things very dismal and not huge apartments.

I also saw a Youtube video where the Bihari chap was wild and claimed he was a Pakistani and damn the Bengalis.

His son, however, was different. He said he had to live here and there was no hope in hell of going to Pakistan and so it is better to be a Bangladeshi and learn Bengali!

It does not matter what India makes or does not make. It is our state policy not to recognize them Adivasi as it will make others as migrant. Infact some of the Adivasi Claimers are migrant in reality, for instance Rakhaine communit who came from Myanmar not too long ago and living in Barisal. How can we declare them Adivasi and calling Bengalis as Migrant?

Same goes for like Garo, Saotals etc who are not originally from this land.

You saw refugee camps not any different than any other refugee camp in the world other than they were allowed to move around, work around or even get out of the camps and become a bonafide citizen. Nobody forced them to stay there.

New aparment buildings are being made and they are under construction

You know, my problem with you is that you hardly come up with any proof to back up your claims.

Show us the damn proof that the Bangladeshi government is building apartments exclusively for Biharis.

Oh, and apartments don't come cheap in Bangladesh. Property prices are very high here.

That is common amongst you chaps, so why blame him?

al Fakira, kharmal (or something like that) and Munshi maharaj lead the pack!

The youtube I appended stated 'Camp'. It means that they are still in 'Camps'.

I would be surprised if the Biharis have apartments. Though it could be. After all, Monitor did say that the Biharis were right and the Liberation was a conspiracy of India to break Pakistan.

However, this unborn person then, could not explain as to why BNP who loves Pakistan failed to undo the 'awful Indian conspiracy'.

The problem with you chaps is that you all are hunting for excuses for your own failure to match your grandiose day dreams that does not match your lethargic approach to realities.

Observe the bouhaha over your garment industry on this forum.

You all make it out as if you are holding Fort Knox!

Each country of this subcontinent is in a mess.

Let us work to improve rather than blame or finding excuses.

Zabu.

He (iajdani) is important since he gives another view.

Valuable.

He also survive the onslaught and fights back

Again valuable.

The remainder are Pratidwani!

You are half way home!
