It is based on their Protector line of body armor vest that had been around over a decade but this new version had probably borrowed many design features from US Interceptor design including the overlapping front, side adjustment strips, detachable throat and groin protector, more importantly, the hard plate pockets and MOLLE.

A note on the Chinese hard plate, since they don't have access to the material to make boron carbide ceramic, their higher-end plates use aluminum oxide ceramic but because the Chinese military is typically cheap-stick, most of their hard plates use ballistic steel, which is up to 3 times heavier than the ceramic plates.

About time and the hardened steel plate substitute is perfectly understandable considering China's large armed forces.

Here is a picture of Canadian body armour in Arid CADPAT

The picture above reminded me of how Canada armour has that shoulder/sleeve part.

Even with steel plate I think only front line troops will be equipped in the near future.
Do other asian armour forces have similar thing in place?

well there goes an oppurtunity for americans to reduce trade deficit!! But im sure they dont wanna sell that to China too!

^^^ You hit a nail. There are plenty of tech china is interested if only US would sell them. It could have prevented the modern trade imbalance somewhat.

Must be agonising for western high tech CEOs to see their potential market vanishing day by day.
