ISLAMABAD: Malala Yousufzai, a brave Pakistani girl living in militancy-hit Swat, will be awarded with National Peace Award as announced by Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani Thursday, Geo News reported. She will also be awarded with Rs500,000 prize money, an official statement added.

Malala Yousufzai has also been nominated for the International Children’s Peace Prize 2011 for raising her voice for girls’ education in troubled Swat, where girls were not only banned from attaining education but their schools were also destroyed by the militants.

While congratulating Yousufzai’s family, the prime minister also instructed the Cabinet division to distribute the National Peace Award every year to children less than 18 years of age.

Islamabad - The officials of Lok Virsa and Pakistan Monument on a rainy Friday gave a warm welcome to a Swati girl, Malala Yousufzai, when she arrived to visit the museums located at Shakarparian hills.

The child prodigy, Yousufzai, now 13, rose to fame for recognition of her services for the promotion of education among girls in Swat, when Taliban forces continued to blow educational institutions in the war-ridden area, particularly, girls’ schools.

Yousufzai, who championed the cause of the people of her region and voiced their afflictions and side by side, the atrocities of the Taliban during their suffocating regime by writing a diary for the BBC under a pseudonym, was nominated for the prestigious International Children Peace Award. Thus she becomes the first-ever Pakistani girl to be nominated for the award.

On her arrival to Heritage Museum of Lok Virsa, Yousufzai was received by the senior officials of Lok Virsa and briefed about the salient features of the tangible and intangible heritage with special reference to the functioning of Lok Virsa as a specialised national institution charged with the mandate for collection, documentation, preservation and dissemination of Pakistan’s cultural heritage.

She was taken around various creative displays at the first ethnological museum of Pakistan, popularly known as Heritage Museum, portraying living folk culture and lifestyles of the people representing each and every corner of the country, including the remotest parts. She took keen interest in the museum displays, specially the wooden carved doors and pillars collected from the beautiful Swat Valley.

In her remarks, Malala Yousufzai appreciated the contribution of Lok Virsa in promoting and preserving the rich cultural heritage of Pakistan in a magnificent way. She was presented a set of Lok Virsa audio-visual productions and books on behalf of Lok Virsa Executive Director Khalid Javaid as token of her visit to Lok Virsa.

Later, Yousufzai also visited Pakistan Monument Museum which is dedicated to those who sacrificed their today for a better tomorrow. The museum depicts history, struggle for freedom, emergence and development of Pakistan through three-dimensional dioramic displays.

She also took keen interest in various galleries of the museum that presents key achievements of the country after independence, particularly in the field of culture, tourism, education, defence, communication, science and technology, sports, industries, women development and other important and diverse sectors of national life. She was very pleased to see glimpses of meritorious services rendered by the founder of Pakistan, Qauid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, national poet and philosopher Allama Iqbal and a number of other national heroes and freedom fighters.

Govt school named after Malala Yousafzai

Karachi : The Government Mission School located near the Civil Hospital was named after Malala Yousafzai, a young Pakistani girl nominated for the International Children’s Peace Award, on Monday.

The government of Sindh gave a check of Rs0.5 million to her during a ceremony. Sindh Education Minister Pir Mazar Ul Haq also announced a donation of Rs1 million for the school.

The minister also announced that the Sindh Computerised Learning Centre would also be named after Yousafzai. The Pakistani young girls had the potential to compete at any level, he said.

He said Yousafzai raised her voice against extremism in Swat and gave the message to the world that Pakistanis were a peace-loving people. Her solid stance against the extremism showed that the people of Pakistan wanted an end to terrorism in the country, he added.

Information Minister Shazia Marri stated that the Sindh Assembly had approved a resolution for Yousafzai. There was a need to show the “true picture of Pakistan and its people to the world” and the young Yousafzai would be a good example of this, she said.

All compatriots, especially young women, should follow the footsteps of Yousafzai, she added. Deputy Speaker Sindh Assembly Shehla Raza said the Constitution of Pakistan gave women their due role and respect in society.

On this occasion, Yousafzai said she was thankful for the warmth and affection of the people of Sindh. The democratic system should not be derailed from the country and women should work along with men for the development of the country, she added.

Malala attends teachers’ development conference

The second day of the 6th Annual Teachers’ Development Conference organised by the Roots National Institute of Teacher Training and Education, in collaboration with Change-in Education, was full of intellect and learning on Friday on the theme of ‘Connect’, says a press release issued here on Friday.

The conference was attended by Malala Yousafzai, the child rights activist. The second day’s conference also brought together leading national and international speakers like Abbas Husain, Dr. Cusrow J. Dubash and Dr. Moiz Hussain, who enlightened the audience on critical thinking and injected new ideas into delegates, comprising RSS directors, head mistresses, branch heads, academic coordinators and faculty members. Malala Yousafzai left all the audience mesmerised and hypnotised with her words. The audience was awestruck and touched at the same time. The delegates were deeply touched at heart and had weepy eyes.

The Roots School System executive director, the founder of RNITTE and CEO Change-in Education, touched by Malala’s speech, honoured her with education scholarship at the Roots School System. He said: “This courageous young girl met the restrictions of the defiance and firm resolution and proved her mettle by refusing to remain illiterate and helping her peers acquire it too.”

The Teachers’ Development Conference 2012 is all about providing teachers an opportunity to learn the art of inculcating the 4Cs and ‘Connect’ in their teaching practices and also equip them with tools to prepare students to be leaders and agents of change in a climate in which the voice of students is sought and honoured. The aim of the conference is to put to acid test the breakthrough concept of ‘Connect’ and concluding its effectiveness in meeting challenges of the 21st century education, which calls for an approach that is agile and adaptable.

Islamabad: As Pakistan issued postal stamps in the memory of Arfa Karim, the world’s Youngest Microsoft Professional who lost her life after brief illness, heart-wrenching scenes were seen at the ceremony when the participants saw late young genius’ mother kissing another genius and brave girl from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Malala Yousuf Zai.

Arfa’s mother seemed to be seeing her daughter in Malala Yousufzai, a brave girl who wrote diaries for BBC during the brutal rule of Pakistan’s homegrown terrorists in Swat.

Yosufzai has also been nominated for International Peace Award while Pakistan also conferred the National Peace Award on her.
Everyone present at the ceremony held by postal ministry to issue the stamps was sad to see Arfa’s mother shedding tears while kissing on Yousufzai’s forehead.

During the ceremony held on Thursday, Federal Minister for Postal Services Sardar Umar Gorage presented a cheque of Rs100,000 to Arfa’s parents. A message of Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani’s was also read on the occasion.

The prime minister in his message said the achievements of Arfa Karim would always be remembered in the country. He said that issuance of commemorative postal stamps was a recognizance of Arfah’s skills.
