Narayanan Krishnan, an unbelievable personality

These are the silent heroes who sacrifice their life for a noble cause.
I am glad that he was shown in the media considering many die without leaving their name and identity.

Although such people don't pursue fame, you could tell from his facial expressions that he genuinely believes in his mission.

Thanks Asim for posting it. Seeing something like this kind of brings out the humane side of us. I am now more determined in my planned future social work activities.

Thanks once again.

Narayanan Krishnan (born 1981) is an Indian chef turned social worker. He quit his career as a leading chef and began supplying meals to the homeless in Madurai, Tamil Nadu, India, beginning in 2002.

Krishnan was born in Madurai, Tamil Nadu. He was an award-winning chef with Taj Hotels, Bangalore and was short-listed for an elite job in Switzerland. During a visit to his family, before heading to Europe, he said, "I saw a very old man, literally eating his own human waste out of hunger. I went to the nearby hotel and asked them what was available. They had idli, which I bought and gave to the old man. Believe me, I had never seen a person eating so fast, ever. As he ate the food, his eyes were filled with tears. Those were the tears of happiness.

Krishnan founded his nonprofit Akshaya Trust in 2003. Every day, he wakes up at 4 a.m., cooks a simple hot meal and then, along with his team, loads it in a van and travels about 125 miles (201 km) feeding the homeless and mentally-disabled in Madurai, Tamil Nadu. He serves breakfast, lunch and dinner to 400 indigent and elderly people in Madurai.

He carries a comb, scissors and razor and is trained in eight haircut styles that, along with a fresh shave, provide extra dignity to those he serves. He is one of the Top 10 in "CNN heroes 2010" list.

salute to u sir there are many silent solders doing their bit to the nation and humanity away from the media highlight.

Humanity is the most powerful force if used in the right direction , i am glad that World hasn't yet run out of people like him.

Thanks for nice share Asim.

What a wonderful human being, its good to know that people like him do exist in our society. It was so overwhelming to see him touching the feet of a random person who was sleeping on the streets, the love he showed for those people was simply mind boggling. God Bless this man

Reminds me of another NGO that I saw on TV which collects leftover food from star hotels, reheats them, checks it and then distributes them free of cost to homeless. There was another guy in Kerala who collects one packet of food from many homes and then distributes among people who cannot afford them. All that the participating family had to do is to cook for one more person and he will make sure that the people who deserves it gets it.
