Nadra blocks 40,000 CNICs of suspected foreigners in Quetta
QUETTA: National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra) on Wednesday blocked more than 40,000 computerised national identity cards over suspicion of being issued to foreigners in Quetta.

Sources in Nadra told Dawn that thousands of CNICs were issued to Afghan refugees and other foreigners living in the province.

The Balochistan government has formed a committee headed by Deputy Commissioner Quetta Dawood Khilji to verify the blocked cards.

"We are unable to verify more than 50 NICs in one day," Khilji told Dawn.

Long queues were witnessed outside Nadra offices in Quetta for verification of CNICs.

"Nadra officials are demanding Rs60,000 bribe for verification of my NIC," Haji Niamatullah, an aged man outside the authority's office in Killi Gul Muhammad area of Quetta, told Dawn. The aged man claims to be a native.

Sources also admitted that NICs of locals were also blocked on suspicion of being foreigners.

Some corrupt elements inside Nadra have included the names of Afghan refugees in the family tree of Quetta residents in order to justify issuance of cards.

"Whenever we trace an Afghan refugee in a family tree, then the CNICs of all family members are blocked," a Nadra official, who requested anonymity because of the sensitivity of the matter, told Dawn.

Most of NICs have been issued to aliens in Quetta, Pishin, Killa Abdullah districts of Balochistan.

Political parties remained critical of Nadra over the alleged inability of the authority to stop issuance of cards to foreigners.

"People are facing problems, they wait outside my office everyday," the Deputy Commissioner Quetta said while referring to the sufferings of the masses.

Issuance of NICs to foreign nationals remained an open secret in Balochistan.

National Accountability Bureau (NAB) had also arrested some Nadra officials for involvement in the issuance of the cards to aliens.

The Accountability Court Quetta has also sentenced two assistant directors of Nadra seven years and fined them Rs8 million each in this regard.

Who needs enemies when you have your own people doling out national identity cards like hot cakes. It's unbelievable that after so much bloodshed we haven't learnt a thing. It seems that money is all that matters to us. The failure to catch the culprits or take any notice can only be attributed at the highest level. Highly unfortunate and regrettable.

The problem is there are traitors & corrupt bastards sitting in NADRA offices who are issuing illegal cards to the enemy of state. I am sure, if honest filtering is done we will find more illegal rented terrorists in Pakistan than the given number. This number is not even close to half of illegal NADRA card holders in Pakistan.

Finally they have started to tackle the problem. Majority of the terrorism, weapons supplies and terrorist supplies are sent across Pakistan through the Taliban sympathizer transportation network created by terrorist sponsors now living in super rich mansions in Islamabad, who originally came from either Afghanistan or the FATA. If you can disrupt this transportation network, you can kill terrorist funding by 80% along with significantly reducing weapons and terrorist supplies across Pakistan. The same big fish behind this network were the original sponsors of the "Pakhtunistan" . I've been writing about it for months that the Interior Dept and the Military are about to get serious with this issue and to disrupt Taliban symphetizer network that exists.

This was also the main reason Gen. Shuns Pasha was asked to stop supporting IK's little sit in from behind as the threat of Pakistan getting broken into pieces had become imminent and thus, the Zarb-e-Arab was started as phase 1 of this effort. If you had listened to the US back in 2002, Pakistan would have been cleaned up from terrorism back then. But still good steps taken in the right direction to eliminate the evil of terrorism!
