Mulan star Liu Yifei called for support of HongKong police

How is Taiwan a shame? They have a prosperous democratic society that is stable and ruled by law. Also, Taiwanese people are by far more well behaved and ethical than people on the Mainland is in general. I've seen how many Mainland Chinese do business and it's very aggressive, selfish and many will do everything they can to cheat just as long as they get what they want, with zero regards to others.

You don't think it is strange that Liu Yifei is an American citizen but her English has a huge accent, that she primarily functions no different than a Chinese citizen living in China, and shares the same worldview as her fans?

Can you imagine Taylor Swift as a Chinese citizen? You're telling me this is not odd?

This just goes to show how opportunistic many of these recent immigrants are, they come to the US, buy expensive houses, live in their own enclaves, get US citizenships, give up their Chinese citizenship and then they still function completely like a foreigner, and they have the nerves to call the locals "Waiguoren" when they are the ones who are foreign and refuse to assimilate. You think that is respectable behavior?

What if a bunch of Americans moved to China, bought expensive real estate, pushing up prices for locals, got Chinese citizenship, but never learned Chinese, just ate burgers and watched FOX news all day and constantly wrote Pro-Trump propaganda online while they lived in Shanghai as Chinese citizens. Do you think this would be ridiculous? Well, that's exactly what you are doing as a "Canadian citizen." If you guys are so nationalistic for China, so patriotic for China, then WHY THE **** did you leave China in the first place? WHY THE **** did you give up your Chinese citizenship for foreign passports?

Taiwanese have very bad reputation among the Mainland Chinese right now.

9 out of 10 telecom scammers are Taiwanese, all those counterfeit products originated in Taiwan, and the Mainlanders were later contaminated by their thievish behavior.

Their political system is also an utter failure, and it is going to implode when Mainland China stops patronizing them.

He is just going for mediation. One foundation is a genuine organisation that helps a lot of Chinese with hundred millions of dollar unlike the BS organisation endorse by Zhang Ziyi. That is why jet li still has a seat in CPC. His contribution for many poor Chinese cannot be ignore.
That way, he is a true Chinese.

The problem is America is a racist country. No matter what u do, its always the white that will benefit. US president is racist and Chinese is ban from military research work based on the their skill color. Fancy u selling your heritage to such tyrant country. You think the white will thank you if u go battlefield and killed a few Chinese for them? The white American GI will buried you together with rest of the dead Chinese troops they killed. Don't be naive.

I've lived here my whole life and on the whole I've been treated pretty fairly and have been successful in every part of my life, so no, I don't agree. Yes, the US does have race problems but overall, Americans are less racist than Chinese people or most other countries because they have had to actively face it's racist history. Yes, the Trump administration has been turning the country towards a more racist attitude but on the whole, most average citizens are still pretty fair in their judgment when it comes to treating people fairly.

You're just selectively choosing isolated incidents. I think the vast majority of people who have been to both countries know that Taiwanese people just behave a lot better. Mind you, I am not being anti-Mainland as I think Hong Kong people are horrible shitty people, they are the worst. But Taiwanese are definitely much better than either the Mainland or Hong Kongers.

Maybe in the future, the Mainland will continue to develop and produce a better society but I'm just talking about how it is now.

This racist stuff is something that has been long imprinted into their heads. You aren’t going to be able to change his upbringing. I will dig you up a video of a Chinese woman who moved to the US and talks about this. She was warned about living the remainder of her life as a 3rd class citizen. When she found this was not the case she was actually shocked. It was hard for her to undo these thoughts.

I’ll dig it up and post it here. Remember you haven’t been exposed to the indoctrination by the Party as a youngster growing up in China so lots of the stuff they say are going to sound strange.

I don't know if it's indoctrination by the party because a lot of Chinese are pretty naive about racism in the West. But at the same time, some are overzealous that minorities are all condemned to second class status. So I don't think it's simply as simple as saying it is indoctrination by the party.

The reality is that the US is a far more diverse society and political entity than China is, that's what a lot of the Chinese members do not get. Donald Trump is America, but so is Bernie Sanders, so is Tulsi Gabbard, so is Cory Booker, so is Ron Paul, so is Andrew Yang. In other words, the US has a huge multitude of voices and cultures that get representation. That's what the members here do not get when they just assume the US is one homogeneous White supremacist entity.

Anyways, I'm curious, what is your ethnic background? Are you a female?

Well India is free and democratic and yet many intelligent Indians just left for oversea because their country is pretty poor. Taiwan is the same thing, only staying well off due to the mainland.

Irish/English/French-Canadian. No, I’m not female.

Most people on here are clueless to life in the US. They think we all live in 30 story buildings and carry guns because at nighttime the crazies pop out of manhole covers like in “Escape from New York”. Plus the suburbs are farmhouses full of people who can’t afford to live in the city as most people live completely miserable uncomfortable lives since they don’t have $500 in the bank.

Yeah, it's pretty retarded. Unfortunately there are some Chinese members here who actually live in the US and they don't even refute these ridiculous notions.

I don't really understand your point. I don't care if Indians leave overseas, has nothing to do with me. My only concern is that when immigrants come to the US and become citizens, their loyalties should be to this country not to a foreign country. Otherwise, they aren't being genuine are they? It is just strange that the Chinese members here think I should be a Chinese nationalist just because I am ethnically Chinese.

About Taiwan, again, I never really cared about their economic condition, I'm talking about the quality of their society. We are talking about apples and oranges. That's why I keep saying a lot of the Chinese members here are quite retarded and very limited in their ability to debate issues intelligently. I am talking about the moral fiber of Taiwanese society and they respond with "haha Taipei has shitty skyscrapers, nothing as shiny as Shanghai!!! HAHA DUR DUR"

What does Taiwan's economy have to do with what I was talking about?

LOL There’s one guy on here who even owns a boat who won’t admit anything. How many Chinese members on here do you think have a boat trailered on the back of their SUV? Life is real tough here for the 3rd class citizens...

Yeah probably zero.

Then again, I'm not really concerned about debating whether China's economy is doing better than the US or vice versa although we know that in terms of per capita living standards, the US is incomparably better. But even if this was reversed, my stance wouldn't change.

Not isolated incidents, it has been generalized over the Mainland community for many years.

Go to the online community from the Mainland China, you will soon find out that most PDF Chinese members are dovish in comparison.

Most Mainland Chinese are now diehard supporters of CPC, and they generally hold a very bad impression on both HKers and Taiwanese.

What does Taiwan's economy have to do with what I was talking about?

Because if you read the Chinese media, GDP and GDP per capita are their yardsticks to measure a society's worth.
The irony is that Taiwan actually have a much higher GDP per capita than the Mainland, and if adjusted for their lower cost of living it's GDP PPP per capita is on par with Sweden/Germany/Australia/Canada.

I see countless Chinese on the internet mocking the Taiwanese for earning 'only' TWD22K or RMB5K. TWD22K is actually the minimum wage, and it's twice that of expensive Beijing/Shanghai.

I read Weibo everyday and I can guess why Mainlanders think of Taiwan in that manner.

Their social media or 'self-media' loves to pick up news from sensationalist Taiwanese media which like to exaggerate how bad Taiwan's economy or how ignorant/brainwashed Taiwanese are, and that will be because of Taiwan's 'chaotic democracy'. Such posts are often accompanied with a clip of Taiwanese MPs throwing stuff at each other.

That's basically the Mainland's impression of Taiwan. They will claim that they are glad they are not a democracy, just look at our GDP, their TWD22K, Taipei with its old buildings is more backward than our 3rd-tier city etc.

The more educated ones surf Zhihu. They have a more well-rounded and objective view of other societies.

Both HKers and Taiwanese want to hear the comforting lies rather than the unpleasant truths.

Taiwan always use their GNP to pretend as their GDP. Their de facto nominal GDP per capita is around 10K USD, which is roughly around same as the current PRC.

Hah, another baseless argument propagated by the ignorant. 人云亦云。50% of Taiwan's GDP is 'fake'?
With GDP per capita of $10K, the median income can hit $15K? Do you know what GDP is comprised of?

TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – Taiwan’s median annual income was NT$470,000 (US$15,235) in 2017, according a new report by the Directorate General of Budget, Accounting and Statistics (DGBAS), reported CNA.
