KARACHI: Detained Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) worker Umair Siddiqui has been involved in 120 target killings, Rangers asserted on Saturday.

In a press release issued today, the Rangers spokesperson said that Siddiqui, who was presented in an Anti-Terrorism Court today, confessed to being given the task of killing those that opposed the MQM.

The accused allegedly received orders to form a team of target killers which included 23 MQM members belonging to various units. The said team was involved in the killing of approximately 120 people that opposed the party.

The orders were issued by Hamad Siddiqui, a member of MQM's Karachi Tanzeemi Committee, the press release stated.

Umair Siddiqui and his team of target killers also allegedly murdered the Rangers' Lance Naik Shaukat. Siddiqui was also involved in the murders of former senator Faisal Raza Abidi's guard and MQM representative Amir Khan's nephew Sabihullah.

The suspect was turned over to the Rangers on physical remand for 90 days.

KARACHI: Muttahida Qaumi Movement worker Umair Siddiqui admitted a party sector incharge set the Baldia factory ablaze, Express News reported.

“Umair Siddiqui admitted MQM sector incharge Abdur Rahman set Baldia factory on fire,” a Rangers spokesperson told an anti-terrorism court in Karachi on Saturday.

Umair, a worker of the MQM arrested on February 15 from his house was presented to the anti-terrorism court today. A Rangers spokesperson briefed the court on the developments in Siddiqui’s investigation.

Earlier, the Rangers placed the blame of the Baldia factory fire on the MQM in a report submitted to the Sindh High Court. The deadly blaze which killed more than 259 factory workers.

According to Sindh Rangers spokesperson Umair killed 120 people in Karachi, including MQM worker Amer Khan’s nephew.

“Umair admitted MQM’s Anis Qaim Khani would order him to kill certain people and he would carry out the targeted killings,” the spokesperson added.

“He even claimed to have shot PPP’s Faisal Raza Abidi’s gunman.”

Umair has been handed over to the Rangers on a 90-day physical remand.

Rangers say that Umair confessed that MQM used to transport arms and ammunition in ambulances.
