JaPa, Gono Forum MPs raised the issue in the parliament

Jatiya Party (JaPa)and Gono Forum lawmakers have demanded sending female manpower toSaudi Arabia for domestic work be stopped as they often face physical assault and harassment.

In reply, Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Imran Ahmed on Tuesday at the parliament, said that the government is very worried about the matter, reports UNB.

During the question-answer session, JaPa MPs Kazi Firoz Rashid and Mujibul Huq Chunnu, and Gono Forum MP Sultan Muhammed Mansur Ahmed raised the issue separately.

“We have taken steps to send female workers after training on various protective measures. If it seems that this is completely impossible, then we will think of not sending any female worker (to Saudi Arabia),” the minister said.

Minister Imran also said he called in the charge d'affaires of the Saudi Arab Mission in Dhaka and, discussed the matter.

He mentioned that the Bangladesh envoy in Saudi Arabia has been directed to raise the issue with the Foreign Ministry of that country.

“A joint technical group will sit on November 26-27 in Saudi Arabia and the matter will be raised there,” the minister added.

He said manpower export fully depends on the demand of the respective country. “Our efforts will be to ensure dignified jobs for women. If we see this is not possible to ensure, we will then think to stop it.”

In the last couple of months, Imran Ahmed said, the government has suspended the licences of 160 travel agencies, while revoked that of three.

Entirely predictable scenario..... BD should not send its women to countries like saudis who have minimal education and is a brutalised society. Stop it immediately.

BD should not send its women to non democratic contries...period.

When I was in the gulf, I would often go to the houses of the locals and they all had an army of servants from India, Bangladesh, and Philippines (oddly enough, I only met one guy from Pakistan as a servant there). Each and every one of them looked like they had dead eyes.

They were in such misery that only their lower brain was functioning, as a way to protect their higher brain and humanity.

it is estimated that about one Corore BD work in India and live a miserable life, also about 30,000 BD women work in Kolkata brothels. Imagine a country where their citizen live the worst life possible on this planet now imagine the life of migrant work in that country.

No woman chose such bad profession willingly. Bangladeshi women go to Kolkata, Mumbai in search of Jobs but they are sent to kothas or red light areas. Its human trafficking but in case of Saudi Arabia Bangladesh Govt. legally sents s.ex slaves for Saudis but call them "Domestic Workers". There is a difference.

There is nothing worse that can happen to a woman then to force her to have sex with "Indian man", I feel for those poor woman and pray God forgive them for whatever they have done to deserve this punishment.

I can’t say that for sure. Remember Amir Zafar was from bengal, these women, often promised better life are sold against their will... some are save but most aren’t. This happened during the British time, during Pakistan time and now... sex exploitation existed before the prophets and exist after the prophets... nothing could be done to stop it.
From what I’ve seen there’s many Indians in bd too, many illegally and many work in the same industry albeit at a higher level, not in a cheap brothel.
I’m against sending women and men in Saudi in general... those bustards treat people like slaves.

It’s the oldest profession in the world... what are you on about... know plenty of women who do it willingly and independently. Although I’m not broken enough to enjoy their service.

There should be a blanket ban on any BD women going to any Arab country. The Arabs despite being wealthy because of their new found oil wealth are extremely primitive and barbaric people. Women should only be allowed to travel to Saudi for Hajj and Umrah and that too with a male mahram.

Saudis don't have minimal education, their literacy rate is higher than 94% and Saudi people with a graduate degree are in very high numbers.

It has nothing to do with their academic qualifications. It has got to do with being Arabs. Arabs are an extremely uncivilized and barbaric group of people. They have been very wealthy, very educated and very well traveled around the world for 60-70 years. Yet, they did not change one bit and won't change.

Find this very heart breaking. The governments should protect its citizens. If they are being abused then what has the BD government done to rescue them. Will they send a special team to saudi arabia to visit every worker to enquire about their treatment?

I know the Pakistani government couldn't care less about its citizens but hopefully BD government will do something.
