Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) is set to conduct the first canister-based trial of the Agni-V intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM), off the Odisha coast on 31 January. Agni-V will be first missile to get Canister variant which give missile system short reaction time and high mobility for requisite operational flexibility’ .

Sources close to idrw.org have informed that few more tests have to be carried out of Canister-based Agni-V to clear it for operations . DRDO is already planning to develop Canister Variants of other existing missiles systems . Agni-IV (3,500-km) likely will be next missile which will be followed by Agni-III ( 3,000-km) and Agni-1 (700-km) which will get canister variants.

While existing missiles will need Custom Canister-based variants due to different sizes and shape of the missiles , Only Agni-II missile might not get Canister variant said sources . DRDO is already working on new Agni-VI missile which will be India first Canister based capable of carrying Multiple warheads (MIRV) towards its target , missile likely will have marginal improvement in range .

composite light weight canister is in making so as fully composite Agni V . A very high thrust low weight motor is also in making for AV.

I have a doubt here. Constrained launch for ICBM or SCBM is fine . But what a is the purpose for A1 -A 2 ? No modifications can be made on war heads as it will in particular configuration for certain range ? Does it makes it had to aim at target with out going in to its firing range?
