Modi woos Punjab voters with pledge to annul Indus Waters Treaty

How? Not to forget the risks associated with it. Instead of dreaming about diverting river from IoK, they should give punjab due share which is taken by gangus in upstream.

Drug problem in punjab? Gangus will blame Pakistan. Water problem? Again blame Pakistan without even looking at the map.

Indus basin is blessed with riverd but we don't have 100% control of them. Haryana and other states should give punjab their due share. Don't try to play Pakistan card here because it will be pointless and dangerous.

Haryana? Lol rivers flow from Kashmir to Punjab to Haryana not the other way round. :D

Just came across this issue which is also mentioned in articles.

"Haryana and Punjab are locked in a bitter legal and emotional battle over the issue for the past several years."

Pakistan already signed off eastern rivers from where Indian punjab get water but now will not give inch on 3 western rivers. Modi is playing Pakistan card while stealing punjab share in water, clever baniya.

Haryana and punjab has enough water for now but things will change in a decade or so.. it's better to start the work for what is going to happen a decade later...if it has to comw to fight, its better haryanvis and punjabis fight with foreigners rather than fighting among ourselves.

People are never happy with status quo regarding water. Water is becoming a major issue in Punjab election especially with farmers suicides.

India is for renegotiations of IWT. What Modi is saying is renegotiating the IWT. IWT is a bad deal for India. India cannot let farmers of Kashmir and Punjab suffer because of IWT.

Our people , our dam ,our river ,our needs come first .whine all you want changes nothing

They aren't suffering because of IWT.

They are suffering because:

a) Water in Indian Punjab is diverted to other 'dry' states like Rajasthan

b) The government cut back on farmers subsidies.

c) Farmers cant get a good price for their goods, with demonetization hitting them even harder.

d) Water in Punjab is polluted with chemicals and garbage from industry

e) A lot of water currently used for irrigation depends on rainfalls refilling underground reserves.

Farmers in Punjab have been complaining about these issues for a long time with the government not doing anything to address their concerns. The tactic now is to divert from the main issue, and point at external factors for their problems.

Here is a documentary which goes in to much more depth:

Instead of blaming Pakistan:

  • sort out exactly what the quota of water sharing between your provinces are so they are more fair
  • subsidise your farmers
  • make it easier for them to sell their produce across the country
  • regulate your industries
  • fund environmental agencies
  • build water harvesting towers like the following-

All of these are far better than fearmongering, promoting hate, and provoking other states into war.

You can take your 20% percent as allocated, but if you scrap the treaty then it will be the last thing you ever do.

:rofl::rofl: no need to write ling posts like these if you have the capability to do the highlighted part:rofl::rofl:;)

Seeing as how Indian army is suffering from attrition, lack of supplies, aging inventory, and no support from the local population it wont be as difficult to take Kashmir as it was in the past wars. Especially now that our air force and army are well experienced and in sync because of Zarb-E-Azb, and under Raheel Sharif as inspector general almost all combat troops are much better equipped.

Besides, you think we will roll over while you steal our water? Almost all agriculture in Pakistan depends on those rivers.

Then issue of kashmir will be on table too, no talks without kashmir.

Then Indian Punjab should remain ready for big Mushrooms. Sadly that is the end result of abrogating Indian Water Treaty.
