Modi Victory! India wins support from US over Food Stockpiling scheme

Its next to 0.
We have made no new medicine ever. And if the trend continues then we are not gonna improve.
Its a fact that most of r&d in india is from the government.

Shameful to say the least:sick:

I'm not talking about Indian pharma companies, I was talking about the 'R&D powerhouses' like Glaxo and Pfizer- guess what their R&D is negligible too. They are primarily marketing companies. And the guys who do the research don't become billionaires either. They get a handsome amount (a few million over several years for the lead researcher for instance), majority of the profits are kept the pharma marketing companies. They squeeze customer and the researcher. Development of a new drug ain't that expensive by the way. It's not like building a CERN with a billion dollars. Maximum takes tens of millions if it's a n all new drug developed over years and extensive testing...and profits every years are in their billions. Now check the math.

On the BRICS bank for instance, was it not presented as a 'victory' here some members that though the bank will be in China, the first President will be an Indian? guess what buddy- after his (I think 5 year term) ends, Chinese nationals will be presidents for the next TWENTY years. They never talked about that did they? In any case I think the BRICS Bank is a harebrained scheme. The Chinese want to set up a multilateral institution to counter the influence of the world bank (always headed by an American) and the IMF (always headed by a European). They aren't gonna succeed because they don't know how to do it. Like every newly rich moron they decided that just having some money and throwing it around should be enough to get influence. You can buy African dictators with it, but with the others, you need more 'finesse'. Like all crude rubber stamp organizations, this will eventually become a virtual 'department' of Chinese finance ministry and die a quiet death.

$41 billion of the initial capital is invested by china against $18 billion from our side and you think they'd have given away bank headquarters to new delhi if Manmohan Singh went?

As the article points out, there is NO change in the regulatory framework. Only correction so that the law is not abused.

As long as generic drugs are available cheap, companies are allowed to sell the same for exorbitant prices. There is no law against making profit or making a fool of yourself by buying the same drug for 10 times its price.

Rest is only baseless speculation since it is not based on any fact that shows the govt. is not serious about implementing laws that was designed to protect the poor.

What baseless speculation? Your own article talks about prospective drugs right?

Sooner or, later, drug policy will have to be revisited. Only solution is universal health insurance which I am hopeful will be completed by Modi's term ends. If better medicines are to be made available, there has to be some compromise between IPR and Cost. :)

As much as WTO is concerned, all the credit goes to Anand Sharma. We were told that we had got a great deal which was not entirely true. Even I do not see this Modi's WTO stand a very good step and hope this is a one time decision and not a trend. We can not go against world. As much as other economic policies and decisions are concerned, not many BJP supporters are happy with Jaitley's performance. I myself would like to see an Arun Shourie heading Finance. But thats Modi's decision and we will have to wait for some more time to see if Jaitley is capable enough to steer India's economic policy or, not.

Arun Jaitley is the best person for Finance ministry ......he won very handsomely from Amritsar:lol::lol:

Farmers are needed to be protected from any deals with the WTO...........WTO is just a group used by developed nations to keep on fueling their growth

I never wanted the bank HQ in delhi and like I said it is really a lame duck scheme anyway, they can keep the HQ and maybe we should take that $18B out. My point was that we're presenting it as some 'victory' which is lame.

Yes, we should withdraw from the WTO and go back to living in cave

Yes u are right but in the end what matters is this

Do u introduce a new drug or not??
We donot
They do

Case closed. It does not matter whether they spend 1$ or 1 trillion$,,,what matters is result. They fix prices as there is no alternative till the generics are out and when they are out prices come down automatically.
