Military intervention in Syria will set off regional conflagration: Iran
Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi has said that a military intervention in Syria will engulf the entire region.
Military intervention in Syria will trigger an explosion in the entire region and is a dangerous plot for the future of the region, Salehi told Lebanons Al-Manar television in an interview aired on Saturday night.
The Iranian foreign minister also expressed dismay at the Arab Leagues decision to refer the Syria case to the Security Council.
Elsewhere in the interview, Salehi commented on the sanctions imposed on Iran by certain Western countries, saying, Tehran has considered the worst scenarios in this regard and is prepared for any possible confrontation.
Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs Hossein Amir-Abdollahian also said on Saturday that the vetoing by Russia and China of the UN resolution shows that hasty measures meant to destabilize Syria will get nowhere.
Speaking to the Persian Service of the Fars News Agency, Amir-Abdollahian said that certain Western and Arab countries are exerting pressure on Syria and are seeking to destabilize and plunge it into turmoil because the situation in the country has improved.
According to the report released by the Arab Leagues mission on Syria, the situation in the country has improved, he said, adding that Assad has taken the measures necessary to implement reforms and fulfill public demands.
The Syrian nation and government will determinedly go down the path of reform and will continue opposing foreign interference, Amir-Abdollahian stated.
