1) They look similar doesn't mean they are copy. 2) Those Chinese brands aren't major brands like ZTE, Huawei, Oppo, Xiaomi.....There're tones of manufacturers in china, many of which Chinese themselves haven't even heard of.

The thing is, over in India, a lot of fake/unbranded impersonations of popular handsets like Samsung Galaxy/Apple iphone etc come from China and are known colloquially as Chinese handsets. Nothing to do with branded Chinese products like ZTE, Huawei, Xiaomi etc.

He was refering to those cheap fakes when he said that Micromax is better than chinese phones. Of course every branded Chinese phone is better than those fakes as well.

Modi needs to come through with improving infrastructure, cutting red tape, and improving ease of business overall.

Labour costs are a very small fraction of overall costs, if it was just labour costs than Africa would be the manufacturing hub of the world. Since they have by far the lowest labour costs, ten times less than China in many cases.

I think you do not know the basic electronics. Apple does not have the facility to produce chips a FAB. Samsung has it. That's the basic difference. Samsung produces their own chip. Of course there may be some ToT due to price and other collaborations.

Samsung used to manufacture for Apple before Samsung started their own based on Apple's design. The lawsuit is still ongoing.
