standard issue Gentex Gen 2 Light Weight Helmet, the design although is not to withstand 7.62 round, they are designed to deflect them, on paper, a LWH only certified to IIJ standard, not IIIA or IIIB standard, but a 7.62 round would probably bounce off of a LHW if they are hitting the front with an angle.

This stories (More than once) is quite common in Iraq and afghanistan, but if that marine is hit from the side, then quite possibly he would have been dead already...
