Maoist insurgents in India are getting support from rebel outfits in Europe and the Philippines, theNarendra Modigovernment told Parliament on Tuesday.
The government said the matter has been taken up on diplomatic levels with Germany, France, Netherlands and Italy.

"The so-called people's war being waged by the CPI (Maoist) against the Indian state has also drawn support from several Maoist fringe organisations located in Germany, France, Holland, Turkey and Italy. The CPI (Maoist) has close links with foreign Maoist organisations in the Philippines and Turkey too," Minister of State for Home AffairsKiren Rijijutold Lok Sabha in a written reply.

He said supporters of the Left-Wing Extremist group participated in conferences and seminars in Belgium and Germany.

The ministry has said that there are inputs that senior cadre of Communist Party of Philippines imparted training to CPI (Maoist) rebels in 2011 and 2005.

The government had so far termed the Maoist movement as a home-grown insurgency.

"The recovery of arms and ammunitions of foreign origin from the Left-Wing Extremists in different encounters and operations is an indication of the fact that they are procuring weapons from different sources. Moreover, the possibility of some front organisations of the CPI (Maoist) clandestinely getting foreign funds cannot be ruled out," Rijiju told Parliament on Tuesday.

Rijiju said the government was closely monitoring the situation and taking appropriate action as required.

"Such matters, as and when they come to the notice of the ministry, are taken up with the Ministry of External Affairs who take up the issue with the countries concerned at the diplomatic level," he said.

The Home Ministry said the CPI (Maoist) is also a member of the Coordination Committee of Maoist Parties and Organisations of South Asia, a conglomerate of which all Maoist parties of South Asia are part of.

This information comes close on the heels of an Intelligence Bureau report indicting foreign NGOs such as Greenpeace trying to derail economic growth in India.
