Malaysia PM says can't provoke Beijing on South China Sea, Uighur issue

No, without Soviet and China's help, especially China threaten US do NOT cross Latitude 17°. You can't beat the U.S.

Soviet stopped supporting you, Vietnam sought for a solution for China-Vietnam war.

A struggle without enough resource and power can NOT win. Dr M is pragmatic. Vietnam is pragmatic as well.

Only fools will bet on all out war and lose everything.
Not changing the fact Dr M is a shameless boot licker!

By the way, he plays double face politics if you look behinds his rhetoric.

There is no major Uighur "issue" other than the hype created by biased media outlets and some typical attention-seeking power-hungry "exiles" who wish to dismantle China. Uighurs face some challenges, no different to minorities elsewhere, but nothing that I would call unresolvable with continued development and good will from all parties.

South China sea disputes I know nothing about. Hope Malaysia and China can sort it out reasonably as they are both allies of Pakistan.

The west says " south China sea crisis" , you come to the south China sea, you are puzzled because no conflicts, no wars, no single bullet fired , you only see peace and prosperity and everyone is busy doing business and making money.
The west says " Xinjiang crisis", you come to Xinjiang you are puzzled because you see no conflicts or violence, you only see world class infrastructure and people enjoy their life, busy working and making a even a better life for themselves and families, you see millions of tourists traveling and enjoying their lives there.
The west says nothing about Kashmir, you go to Kashmir, you are puzzled cause you think you are in a war zone, you see city locked down, curfew and conflicts engaged by people of all ages. you see poverty , suffering and misery first hand.
And now you know the western world is upside down.

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia does not want to take a confrontational stance toward China over the disputed South China Sea and Beijing’s alleged mistreatment of its minority Uighur Muslims, Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad said in an interview published on Saturday.

Malaysia is too small to face up to the Asian powerhouse, even though Chinese ships surveying its waters for oil and gas in South China Sea do so without permission, he told an online news service during a visit to New York this week.

“We watch what they are doing, we report what they are doing, but we do not chase them away or try to be aggressive,” Mahathir told BenarNews.

“The Malay states have existed near China for the past 2,000 years. We have survived because we know how to conduct ourselves. We don’t go around trying to be aggressive when we don’t have the capacity, so we use other means.”

He said that in the past Malaysia used to send to China “gold and silver flowers every year as a symbol of our being practically, well, subservient to them”.

This month, China and Malaysia agreed to set up a joint dialogue mechanism for the South China Sea, as ties between the countries improve. China is Malaysia’s biggest trading partner.

Chinese President Xi Jinping has been overseeing a sweeping plan to refurbish its army as the country ramps up its presence in the South China Sea and around self-ruled Taiwan, rattling nerves around the region and in Washington.
Mahathir also said China’s might was the reason Muslim-majority Malaysia did not speak out much against Beijing’s alleged repression of Uighur Muslims.

“You don’t just try and do something which would fail anyway, so it is better to find some other less violent ways not to antagonise China too much, because China is beneficial for us,” he said.

“Of course it’s is a big trading partner of ours and you do not want to do something that will fail, and in the process, also, we will suffer.”

The 94-year-old leader also said Malaysia’s police was trying to ascertain if fugitive financier Low Taek Jho was in China.

Investigators have named Low, better known as Jho Low, as a key figure in the scandal at 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB), which US and Malaysian prosecutors say was used to siphon out hundreds of millions of dollars.

Maybe something he is not satisfied with China, but China is still better partner than other power.

And I wish he will treat Chinese Malaysian equally.

I know a number of Chinese Malaysians working in China, none of them can think of a bigger joke than us thinking of them being "second classed" back home.

Do you know why Singapore is kicked out of Malaysia in the first place? We wanted a Malaysia with equal rights between all races while the Malays there wanted a Malay dominant Malaysia, and Chinese-majority Singapore is kicked out.

Racism is even enshrined in their law and constitution.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Article_153_of_the_Constitution_of_Malaysia

What a joke, an immigrant Malay can enjoy more privileges than a native Chinese born in Malaysia for generations. Equal rights is considered an extremist view.

The article has been a source of controversy since the early days of Malaysia. In particular, it was not entirely clear if Article 153 was predicated on the Malays' economic status at the time, or if it was meant to recognise Bumiputra as a special class of citizens. Some took the latter view, like Singaporean politician Lee Kuan Yew of the People's Action Party (PAP), who publicly questioned the need for Article 153 in Parliament, and called for a "Malaysian Malaysia". In a speech, Lee bemoaned what would later be described as the Malaysian social contract:

"According to history, Malays began to migrate to Malaysia in noticeable numbers only about 700 years ago. Of the 39% Malays in Malaysia today, about one-third are comparatively new immigrants like the secretary-general of UMNO, Dato' Syed Ja'afar Albar, who came to Malaya from Indonesia just before the war at the age of more than thirty. Therefore it is wrong and illogical for a particular racial group to think that they are more justified to be called Malaysians and that the others can become Malaysian only through their favour."[5]

Lee also criticised the government's policies by stating that "[t]hey, the Malay, have the right as Malaysian citizens to go up to the level of training and education that the more competitive societies, the non-Malay society, has produced. That is what must be done, isn't it? Not to feed them with this obscurantist doctrine that all they have got to do is to get Malay rights for the few special Malays and their problem has been resolved."[6] He also lamented "Malaysia—to whom does it belong? To Malaysians. But who are Malaysians? I hope I am, Mr Speaker, Sir. But sometimes, sitting in this chamber, I doubt whether I am allowed to be a Malaysian."[citation needed]

Lee's statements upset many, especially politicians from the Alliance. Then Finance Minister Tan Siew Sin called Lee the "greatest, disruptive force in the entire history of Malaysia and Malaya."[7] The Tunku considered Lee to be too extremist in his views, while other UMNO politicians thought Lee was simply taking advantage of the situation to pander to the Chinese Malaysians.

You should feel lucky to be kicked out of Malaysia, otherwise you can't be like what you are now in the world.

He could have lick US boot but he didn't.

All countries leader choose what is best for the progress of their country.
It’s very sad that now Malaysia surrenders after Indonesia, Philippines, Thailand, Brunei, Singapore did surrender. Now the fate of the region lies in the hands of Vietnam.

Well you're right, but that's in hindsight.

Our population were made up of illiterate migrants from all over Asia with no common language or identity to forge a nation. Back then no one can say for sure a city-state like Singapore will survive, much less prosper, in a volatile region which is anti-Chinese. To use a weak analogy, it's like Beijing 五环内 getting kicked out of China and suddenly you're own your own to survive and compete.

The Malaysian parliament voted 126-0 in favor of Singapore's expulsion; they were pretty sure Singapore will collapse and crawl back to them or be their satellite state. We had to develop our own military and link our economy with the rest of the world so that we don't get pushed around by them, such as our water supplies or sea routes getting cut off.

I am very proud of Singapore's achievement. Just look at Malay, a deeply corrupted countries, most of their elites are a$$holes. While most of Singapore leaders are world class elites, and Singapore society is the model of the world.

Cry me a river, Malay.
