By Supun Dias

The Adjutant General of the Bangladesh, Army Major General Abu Belal Muhammad Shafiul Huq, is on a five-day goodwill visit to the island to strengthen military ties and was to call on Sri Lankan Army Chief Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya today (18).

The aim of the visit was to promote goodwill, healthy relations and a better understanding between the two militaries with the additional goal of promoting future training programmes between the Sri Lankan and Bangladeshi Armies. The Adjutant General was also here to discuss a wide range of matters of relevance to both countries, with special focus on increased intakes of officers for training assignments, incorporation of new areas of studies into the military curriculums and to discuss Sri Lanka’s military experience on the road to defeating terrorism.

The delegation was to visit the ‘Ranaviru Sevana’ at Ragama, the Sri Lanka Armoured Corps Regimental Centre with a joint sight seeing tour of the City planned afterwards. The delegation is comprised of Major General Abu Belal Muhammad Shafiul Huq, Mrs Begum Shoma Huq, Brigadier General Muhammad Abdul Halim, Lieutenant Colonel Muhammad Nazimul Huq and Major Muhammad Rafiq Ul Islam.

A brotherly nation like Srilanka is always welcome... We should start conducting some sort of naval exercise with srilanka..... As well as we should learn from them how to fight rebels specially hidden in forests.... I heard Santu larma is threatening again of conflict....

Naval exerciese are being done more frequently after the fall
of LTTE. Shanntu is a rather conflicting case. Our strategy with
the people of hill tracts should be revised as I've heard some
serious issues myself. Also they get their weopons from Assam
with either the help of India or ulfa, that has to be rooted out first.
