He is the one responsible for 6 billion USD fine and millions already spent on case. Once an international agreement has signed, you can never end it bi-laterally. Why you signed at first place ? .

How come that person is not in jail for ill-judgement & not knowing international laws while passing judgement on such case.

I think his intentions were not bad but he underestimated the approach of Tethyan.

His main reason for cancelling the project was the lack of transparency in determining how the share will be divided and he had pointed very few true reasons of corruption involved in it... He even mentioned at many places that we will extract it ourselves when we have the technology but Tethyan had a valid case in the International court for not cancelling the project on the basis of merit... And whatever the accusations of corruption were being raised were broadly artificial and fake...

What is the total value of the mine?

It is indeed a win; it could have been so much worse. The one eyed devil got us caught in a net which could have caused us severe financial problems, ironically he was the chief justice and should have been aware of the consequences of illegally cancelling the contract protected by sovereign guarantees.

I agree. It was/is a bad deal. But a deal nonetheless. We should be careful at the contractual stage because after that the shot is fired and can’t be reverted to our advantage.

And so that remains our problem, Iftikhar Chaudhray will never be held accountable and hence no incentive for serving and future Chief Justices to stay within the constitutional ambit.

Pakistan should make sure at least some of it’s share of the gold extracted is kept in Gold in the central bank, with a goal to build up the reserves as part of a long term defense strategy to be resilient in the same way the Russian economy is resilient to outside pressure.
